England 2012 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Orkney Grey
Traking devices

I've got a week to go before the pick up date and I am musing over which tracking device to have installed. I've narrowed it down to a system called Tracker Horizon. £230 fitted with yearly subscription being £132 or £342 for as long as I own the car. Has anybody got one of these systems or anything cheaper which does exactly the same thing? Any advice welcome. Thumbs Up Now gone Orkney grey SDV6 HSE with body style kit contrast stitch ebony leather, privacy, black piano, 22" Lowenharts for summer, 20" with Leon LTZ for winter.

Mixed messages on this. From what I found is that it's worth shopping around for your insurance if you get one fitted as some companies offer reduced rates which makes the cost of fitting one reasonable.

Some people who have their car nicked don't want the thing back because the vehicle is usually trashed - I'm in this camp. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

Land Rover insurance don't require me to fit one where I live BUT if I did fit one they also would not give me any reduction in premium for it! I think if you look at any of the the Royal Bank of Scotland owned insurance brands (Directline and a couple of others) they will require you to fit one as they own the company that sells trackers in the UK.

Tracker, I believe, is the only system nationally adopted by the police force. I researched quite a few companies and the Tracker was my choice. Three different systems - go for the Horizon. Uses GPS and VHF in case the car stored in basement or container.
I have a high value performance car fitted with tracker response. It's a pain in the butt. You HAVE to remember to keep the validation tages on the keyring, which actually defeats the purpose of the system. (meant to have one on your person so that the car is validated with the authorised driver). All ok until you get up early on a winter's morning - drive your car and wife to the train station - jump out and get on train - with the validation tag in your wallet. Wife drives car back home and your mobile switched off so that you don't receive monitor station call. Wife gets intercepted by police. Need I go on.

Point taken on the "don't want it back if it's stolen" - chances are, even with the tracker fitted - despite what the advertisers claim - it ain't coming back alive. Forget the insurance premium drop. They all quote that special conditions apply for "security risk" vehicles.

Thanks for the replies, I think if they want it they will get it so i'm coming around to the way of thinking I probably don't want it back side of the fence. probably safest to have a sign saying no tracker fitted so they dont rip the panels and seats out looking for it! purple people eater

Sky Tag contacted me a while back about being a dealer/fitter. Still being in the early stages and having not yet fitted one, all I can gather is that there RRP for the hardware is around £199, fitting (by us) is around £40 and there is a monthly fee of £6.99 (all including VAT).

In reality though and from the email I have, I think the total package is more like £200 possibly including a 3 month free subscription, but I'm only 90% on that so don't quote me.

Personally, I think I'd have one as I don't trust my insurer to pay out on anything close to the value of the vehicle (a 1995 4.6HSE) so I'd rather the extra insurance offered by a tracker service. Saying that, no-one in their right mind would steal it.

For a new vehicle like the RRS, your payout on a vehicle theft is likely to be much closer to market value anyway.

Then, there is the whole debate about personal freedom (remember this? Censored ), i.e. who is watching you using the vehicle?
