How High do you needto raise the car to change a wheel?

I am buying a new jack and need to know how much lift I need to enable me to remove a wheel. The one I am looking at will raise 550mm. Is that enough?

Also - just for forum info - my wheel brace broke when changing a wheel recently. I took it back to the dealer and they suggested I would have to pay for a replacement. I explained I had seen it was a common fault on a number of forums and they have replaced it for free. Jaguar XKR Convertible

Has to be more than Offroad height as that is where you start with the jack! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Depends on the type of jack. If a scissor jack, like the LR supplied one, then as Tim says, you need to start at off-road height, and there is a lot of wheel travel to account for. If a bottle jack or trolley (2T is enough) that you can place under a wishbone, then the required height is much lower. 500mm will be enough.

There was a long thread with actual numbers on disco3.co.uk, if you can find it.

Thanks Leo/Tim - looks like the one I have spotted will be fine. Might just check though by jacking it up myself.
