22 Inch Rims Invalidate the RR Waranty?

Hoping somebody can give me some advice please. Dropped the car off this morning with knocking noise from the front suspension, expecting it to be covered by warranty as it's a known fault. However because the car is a Kahn conversion and runs on 22 inch rims, Land Rover are refusing to repair the problem. Obviously the wheels are a nice get out of jail card for them, however I don't understand if it is a known fault how they can weasel out of this. Has anybody had a similar experience or can point me in the direction of getting this sorted without a big bill please? Thanks.

What do Khan have to say about it? If it's their work and it has invalidaded the LR warranty then perhaps they underwrite the warranty? For example, I know that when a car has an LPG conversion it invalidates the LR warranty on the engine but the LPG conversion manufacturers underwrite the work with their own warranty. 2013 Discovery HSE Luxury - 3.0 SDV6 - Santorini Black

22 Inch Rims Invalidate the RR Waranty?

That was my first port of call after the news from LR. They are saying that 22 inch rims do no damage the vehicle and that particular dealership is being difficult. They have said they have LR dealerships selling their wheels on new cars without a problem. They are not taking responsibility and saying as far as they are concerned LR should repair it. Stuck between a rock and a hard place!

Maybe try another dealer (ask Kahn which ones sell their stuff?), but like you say, it's an excuse for them to do nothing. I'm guessing you don't have the original rims, so maybe someone here could swap wheels for a bit, or lend you some LR wheels?

Thanks Leo. It had crossed my mind, the only thing that worries me is a Project Kahn Kit with LR wheels might be a giveaway. I like your thinking though. Thanks.

You say it gives them a get out of jail card, but i presume you had them fitted

LR designed the product to run on wheels upto 20" why should they pay for damaged caused by larger wheels?

No dealer is going to turn down warranty work if it is legitimate, as it is income for their business. Rolling Eyes

If you alter anything from manufacturers spec then it will put any warranty claim at risk.

As suggested, perhaps wheel retailers should warn customers that their products could affect the manufacturers warranty.

ASH555 - you really are a trouble causer!

Haven't you read any of the threads on this site? (I know you have...)

There are 4 brand new cars in the Farnell dealership in Leeds with 22" wheels on - sold as new - no sign saying "Your warranty is invalidated" - £70k cars - now come on - surely if you bought the car from that dealer with 22" wheels they are, in effect, validating the wheels as acceptable.

It's a rhetorical question because I have asked the question in the dealership.

There is no mechanical issue with driving on 22" wheels.

This is purely a naive ploy from the dealer to avoid sorting out what is a known problem. Avoidance of responsibility - not a nice trait.

Don't give me all that "Land Rover sedigned the car bla bla bla..." it's a cop out.

In fact - I am beginning to wonder if you are a closet 22" wheel fan but just too conservative to let your feelings out. Is there anything else you want to tell us all? Jaguar XKR Convertible

ASH555 has a point but I am wondering if the franchise serviced the vehicle at any stage with the 22inch wheels on and didnt say anything?

Now that would be deemed unreasonable to take payment for services that now prove useless if the car has no warranty? Now - MY11 RRS Autobiography TDV6, Orkney gray, tints, steps, daylight running lamps and allllll the toys!!!

If this problem was unique to cars with 22" wheels, then they would have a point. However, it exists across all wheel sizes and is, in fact, a design flaw.

But they could argue that the 22inch wheels make the flaw worse and sooner and maybe that with designed wheels it may not have occured.

There are some owners that have reported the fault hasnt occured with ther RRS.

Ultimately the design flaw has occured to a design for 20inch and below not a 22inch wheel. Now - MY11 RRS Autobiography TDV6, Orkney gray, tints, steps, daylight running lamps and allllll the toys!!!
