My bloody weekend!!!

Right.. as my sister got married last week, and functions have been happening for over two weeks now, saturday was the final function.. which is basically the boys side ‘after wedding’ reception which was held at Bisley National Rifle Association shooting range, in one of the public civic halls there, the pavilion..

We left sat morning at 11am.. had a clear run down.. no coppers in sight, and everything ran like clockwork.. food was excellent, no family embarrasments, everything literally went perfectly.. a perfect end to a perfect marriage (at last!!).. But for **** sake.. come out of the hall to transfer some bits and pieces from my dads boot, and **** me.. there is a bloody hole in the rear window, and the whole screen is shattered.. looked like a bullet hole!

My cousin spots the hole and we stand there literally gob smacked.. i was in shock to be honest.. really annoyed and i start looking round for the culprit and the cause of how it happened.. my cousin opens the damn rear door and starts looking for a shell/casing/stone.. but can't see anything, closes the door, and smash... there goes all the glass, into the nice lush leather interior... great thats made things much better..

Now there is a crowd gathering.. everyones asking how it happened etc etc... im getting very pee'd off.. but we choose to ignore it and wrap up the function.. i get onto phone with the insurance company at first and get transferred through to autowindscreen to get it replaced, explain its a weddng, and that i have kids on board to transport back to brum.. and im on MOD land, which will be closing soon (not sure if that’s true or not, but would hurry them up!) so hurry up... noone phones back.. after two chase up calls, as all our guests start to leave and are enquiring whether we need lift back to bham etc.. but as autowindscreen promise to phone back we decline and say we’ll be ok.. autowindscreen don’t phone back, I ring them, and they inform me they are finding it hard to source the glass and no depot nearby has the glass, therefore it will be tomorrow morning before repair is likely at earliest..but will call u back by 7pm..
Great!!

We decide to ditch insurance and autowindscreen, and as we are doing that and thinking about doing a solo mission in the 7 series, my brother in law, offers kindly to sort out passengers and take a load of people back to brum for me… he goes to start his X5.. and dead.. the battery is completely dead.. so now we have two bmws, one with smashed window, and one with dead battery.. Another 5 series belonging to my uncle is parked next to us, and we are thinking.. great whats gunna happen to that!?

My brother in law gets onto AA, and they arrive in about ½ an hour, in the mean time everyone leaves, leaving a handful of us blokes behind to sort out the cars.
AA man arrives, and promptly charges up the X5..

while waiting for AutoWindcrap to call back, we start hovering out the 7 series, and its actually quite easy hovering up all the shards of glass, have two henrys doing a superb job.. After phoning autowindcrap again, they say, sorry we can’t definitely do the window tonight.. so basically don’t call us, we will call you..

X5 charged up and ready to go, and I feel trying to drive the now cleaned out ‘window less’ 7 series may be a go’er..

AA guy suggests, if u have cover, why not just get car recovered, would not be good idea driving back on motorway without windscreen on back.. we contemplate this, and then disaster strikes for third time..

The aa van, stalls, and fails to restart!! Oh did we chuckle..and rip the Censored !!

The guy was soo embarrassed.. and he said he would be fine and doesn’t need a lift anywhere.. as we dart away in the X5 and 7’er.. back to my new brother in laws house in Guildford..

Basically recovery truck arrives an hour later after dinner, and we have the soundest cockney driver in the entire world.. double cab in the recovery truck is surprisingly very comfortable, and we all put our feet up and appreciate not having to drive back after a tiring day.. The driver wakes me up ½ hour later after joining the M40 and tells me, oh sorry mate, my tacho time meter is running out, we’re going to have to transfer you’re motor to another AA driver/Truck..
Bloody great.. but no fault of his to be fair, we did keep him waiting in Guildford and the rules aren’t made up by him.. more british red bloody tape..

Arrive at cherwell services on M40, fortunately AA are on the ball tonight, and truck is ready and waiting sitting there parked up. As the guys work to move car from one to another, we get off and go for a services break.. Hop back on into the new AA truck and this one is limited to 56mph, so crawl the rest of the way. Arrived home at 12:45am and am knackered at this point. Have the AA guy stop at the end of my road, can’t be doing with the embarrassment of having the 7 series low loaded of the back of the transporter in the middle of the night in front of all the neighbours.. what would they say? Haha.. anyway, Autocrapglass and Autowindupscreen still aint sourced the glass, and now its tues night.. the 7’er is parked up nice and snug inside our office warehouse, hopefully get the window in tomorrow, but its been a very eventful journey to Va’s part of the world on sat! won’t forget this in a hurry!!

VA,... sorry mate.. take it up with my brother in law, it was his function we were simply guests.. so u live nearby to these ranges then? excellent.. nice place..

We reckon it was a stone chipped up from the bad road coming off the main road, directly behind the 7 series.. must have been a fast travelling stone..

That guy in the AA van was actually a white chap and it was broad daylight.. god knows what happened to that pic!?

Nah, im not bad luck normally.. it wasn't my car was it!!?

What the real bad luck is.. the glass is bloody not an 'off the shelf item' the guy who had this car before us spec'd it to the max.. had the same issue when trying to get a side mirror replaced, cost me £300 approx (AT TRADE PRICE!!) bloody auto dimming side mirror.. basically mini plasma screen with this fluid stuff that runs behind glass to tint it.. great..

Seems even the rear glass is 'special' having to order it from Bmw, who are in turn having to order it from BMW GB, who i reckon probably getting it in from Germany.. they say it will be with them tommorow morning (thurs) and be with us tommorow arvo.. we've got it parked in the tunnel of our warehouse, left it here overnight as the alarm keeps going off (as it has no rear window) so left it here with only the locks engaged, but lot of security around it.. if its fixed, i may even bring this to the lr day on friday.. dump the saab on my mum or something..
