There is a way round it if you're coming to and going back from Aberdeen. Coming north after you leave the M74 and come up onto the M73 there is a junction as you climb the hill (stay in the middle lane as inside takes you to Glasgow). Where the left hand lane ends there is a junction that drops you down to a roundabout which takes you to Edinburgh on the M8. Follow it across untill you pick up signs for the Forth Road Bridge then after the bridge straight up the M90 to Perth and there you'll pick up the signs for Aberdeen. Same going back. Down the M90 and over the Forth Bridge, stay in the middle lane and follow it round untill you pick up the signs for Glasgow M8. It's pretty well straight on but watch for speed cameras in the 50mph stretch. When you get over in the direction of Glasgow again look for signs for M74 Carlisle and voila!! Youve missed it. Sat nav has a tendency to put you that way (both Tom tom and RRS does at least) but will put you down a back road to Lesmahagow area). The mileage and time is pretty well similar as going by Stirling. Will definately be quicker if the tailbacks are up as Tim says. Current, M135i in Estoril Blue with more extras than the cast of Ben Hur.

It doesn't feature nightly on the traffic news like it did last year, I haven't driven that way to Glasgow for a long time as I go the other way round (it's shorter from where I live) I assume that lack of news means it flows much more smoothly than last year.

Don't be silly!! Many more months of chaos to go yet. Then the fun will move to the A8 bits of the M8. Thank the gods they'll never be able to pay for dualling the A9 up to Inverness, it would mean decades of such chaos. |

Now that's showing your age!! I remember them doing the "new" A9 and I must have been 8 or 9. We were that orange Volvo towing the caravan up & down the old road. It took them years to redo the junction at Ballinuig (or however it's spelt), to do the whole road would be a multi-generational event. They should be banned from calling them roadworks as there's hardly anybody ever working! |

Have never stopped at House of Bruar, wouldn't want all the traffic I've battled past to get ahead. My fave (not ) are the supermarket lorries that make it their mission in life to drive at just under 40mph and never pull over!! |

Ah but the drivers have good reason for that!! Their trucks are tracked all the time and if they go over the 40mph limit for X amount of time then it's a verbal warning!! 2 offences and written warning then 3 and theyre out!!!! Can't blame the drivers for it really when you're fced with that for trying to keep the traffic moving!! Current, M135i in Estoril Blue with more extras than the cast of Ben Hur.

Tell me about it but when you are at the end of a 2 mile snake doing 35 - 40 it's hard not to curse the lead truck. If it's a Morrison or Asda truck I do renew my vow not to shop there. |
