United Kingdom 2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Santorini Black
Advice please! EASYGUARD Paintwork & Upholstery Protecti

I am due to take delivery of a new TDV6 HSE in March Thumbs Up

The dealer has recommended that I have the paintwork & upholstery protected with an 'EASYGUARD' treatment
at a cost of £195 which claims to offer the 'GardX Vehicle Protection System' with a 5 Year Warranty.

On face value, and if I believe the blurb in the brochure, it sounds worthwhile , particuarly as I have opted for IVORY leather !!

Can anyone offer advice on whether its a good thing to do or are there better/more cost effective alternatives ?

Thanks in advance for any comments.

I'm laughing inwardly reading this.

Fact - it is not possible to 'seal' & protect leather in the same way you can 'seal' & protect fabric cloth/upholstery.

1. The active constituent which performs this function has an almost adhesive quality - but does not have this bonding effect on leather.

2. Even if it did seal & protect leather in this fashion (which it doesn't) - leather is a natural product & needs to 'breathe'. If you could protect ivory leather from stains by sealing it in this way - it would effectively dry out & crack bery quickly.

3. What are these leather 'protection' treatments I hear you cry?! A gimmick in an answer. The vast majority when applied to leather leave a slippery feel to the touch for a short period - once the solvent carriers boil off & the product evaporates - the leather actually gets dried out!

Leather needs to be cleaned & 'fed' with essential oils so the product is kept soft & supple.

As for the 'Gard X' Paint Sealant - read the small print. You need to apply a conserver type product every Month to maintain the guarantee on the car. With that type of maintenace required - better off getting a quality wax/polish & doing it yourself.

Want my advice (as a fellow RRS driver with Ivory seats Thumbs Up ) buy a good Leather cleaner/feed & clean the seats once a MOnth. The only issue really is blue dye from denim - but if it's removed quickly & not left on for Months & Months you'll be ok Thumbs Up

+1 on what been said

also these type of paint protection products are only as good as the person applying it, it is also said to come off if you take it through a auto car wash, or use strong pre soaking chemicals like the kosovan car washers

I agree that most are a waste of money for this type of thing.

There is one brand on the market whose guarantee is far superior to everyone elses. It actually allows for your car's paintwork to be re-painted under the guarantee, should the finish deteriorate under certain conditions. Most just say they re-treat the car.

Also their guarantee on fabric/cloth upholstery covers you to a far greater extent than any others - but it certianly isn't the company you mentioned.

Also - be careful of paint/upholstery protection systems where your cover is a 'warranty' underwritten by a 3rd party insurer. In their smallprint you are expected to paty an excess on any claim relating to paint or upholstery protection & their are set limits on what you can claim for.

In any case - if I were in your shoes - I wouldn't have that.

Enjoy the car though when it comes!! Thumbs Up '10 Jaguar XKR Coupe 5.0L Supercharged.

I've turned it down before even when the salesman has offered to throw it in for free! The paintwork protection can cause more harm than good unless the paintwork is perfect first and the person is very anal about applying it (which is very unlikely!). Also the interior stuff can ruin the new car leather smell. WINNER - 2009 ‘Just Doing What It’s Designed To Do’ Award

Hey Rickshaw - looks like you are being bombarded with good advice.
Complete waste of money.

I spent £400 on some Supaguard piece of rubbish. My seats are ivory. Where I sit and my belt rubs against the seat, or the blue off my jeans on the bolsters - the 'supa' stuff hasn't helped. Try getting the 'guarantee' actioned?

Just clean it - it's all part of the Sunday routine.
