feedback invited.. cabin air temperature control

if you have a non-MY10 vehicle, can you perform the following test and provide an answer? This is to settle a dispute with a dealer "oh they all do that Sir" type scenario:

- car warmed up properly, so hot air is being expelled by the climate control
- both passenger and driver temperature control set to maximum (the red dot)
- air flow directed out of the centre (face) vents

Once you can feel hot air being expelled from the vents, please put your hand (or face) close to the drivers side window vent (the right most vent in a RHD car), and with your other hand dial the PASSENGER temperature dial a few notches LOWER.

Question - do you feel a change in temperature of the air coming out of the drivers side window vent?

thanks all

I can only detect a significant change when the passenger temp dial reaches 24 / 22 deg.

mine seem to be all over the shop .... side vents never as warm as centre vents ... overall heat blowers are not very good! ... this is not on a/c climate control though ... never used the aircon, can't afford the extra fuel !!

Average temperature here is more that 30 degrees and so will be very difficult for me to put the heater full blast and put my ear to the window! Might get burnt!! Laughing

Anyway, there is a Service Bulletin issued mid-Jan which might just address your concern..

Quote:
Models:
LA - Discovery 3
LS - Range Rover Sport
LA - Discovery 4

Title
RRS, Discovery 3/4 & LR3/4 HVAC Stepper Motor Diagnosis
Last Modified: 15-JAN-2010 08:18
Category: Electrical
Symptom: 208000 Climate Control

Concern
Should a Discovery 3/4, LR3/4 or Range Rover Sport customer report a concern with the HVAC
Air Distribution or Temperature Control operation on their vehicle, the possible cause could be
related to one of the 4 HVAC Stepper Motors, one of the internal HVAC Distribution Doors or possibly
a wiring fault.

thanks Bobby - superstar as always! Can I ask - is that bulletin dated, and does it offer any advice for remedy/solution?

depending on the actual date, it is very likely the dealer who is trying to fobb me off with "they all do that" was actually in receipt of this exact bulletin.... Shocked

edit - just saw - 15th Jan... they had the car 23rd-30th Jan.........

Basically, when there are issues with the air distribution or temperature control, the cause could be related to one of the 4 stepper motors, one of the internal HVAC distribution doors or a wiring fault.

They will use their diagnostic tool to verify this.

Tell the dealer to check SSM43198 (1). Malaysia Boleh!
