After 2 RR Sports - TDV6 and then a TDV8 (torched by persons unknown 4 days before christmas) I have decided to move on. Much as I loved the TDV8, I think it had too many niggles and faults for a "premium product". Hearing that the new model still suffers from the front end clunk puts me off even thinking about another one. So I have elected to go German and buy an ML 320 CDI with all the gadgets. Of course it is not a real off-roader but then I never let my RR Sport on its high heels (20in alloys) out on anything more off-road than a meadow. Yes, the Merc is a tad bland inside and out, (maybe 'clinical' is a nicer word) and yes, it would be more respectable if I at least went for an AMG, but what can I say? RRS TDV6 (gone)

I must have been lucky with my old ML270 then, it was about 3 years old when we got it....had it for another couple of years without any problems.

If we all liked the same things the world would be rather boring. Imagine only RR Sports on the road - you'd have nothing to compare it to. I looked also at the X5 but it is a bit too flash. So reliable or unreliable, it's going to be the Merc. I will be honest and report its failings here if and when they occur. RRS TDV6 (gone)

I suppose the Merc has one excuse if it isn't 100% great - the ML is made without pride in the USA! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

I am a Jaguar/Land Rover lover/owner through and through. I looked at a C Class saloon recently as a second car £40k they wanted for it. I think I have become used to a certain standard now, the MB diesel engine (320) was so agricultural and the gearbox clunky. The LR setup is just superb.
