My first post......has anyone had any experience with Pirelli Scorpion ATR's I was considering General Grabber ATR's in 255 x 55 x R18 but we can now get the Pirelli's in this size. Somewhat dearer but they may also be better! |

Welcome Lew - I have the Grabbers, good performance on and off road albeit a bit weak in the side wall when going over sharp rocks, and have had two tears as such.

FWIW, there's much discussion on these tyres on the sister site, www.disco3.co.uk (although presently the hot topic is winter tyres). Albeit on a D3, I've recently switched to ATRs from Zeros, hoping to get better life, as in both 18" and 19" sizes I've not managed over 18K miles. |

Both tyres have good very good reports. General ATRs do have problems as noted with side walls on rocks and have suffered this problem myself. My own experience of the General AT2 is very good though and have stood up and performed very well in rocks, mud and snow and normal everyday driving with a good life as well. Both tyres not very good in deep mud though, which is what you would expect. Think at present General tyres supply about 70 percent of UK market with All Terrains.

Many thanks for the advice. At this stage leaning towards the Pirelli's as the side wall weakness of the GG's is concerning, given that most of our tracks can be quite rocky. |

Another option if you're looking for sidewall strength is the Goodyear MT/R, which comes with a triple ply kevlar sidewall construction. I went for these tyres because many of the Australian tracks have jacked rocks and wanted that extra degree of protection. 2008 TDV8, Stornoway Grey with Alpaca premium leather, Adaptive cruise, Adaptive Bi-xenons, sunroof, Premium Nav, Premium ICE Logic 7, telephone, active locking rear diff, console coolbox, seat memory, powerfold mirrors, tow pack, window tint, dual battery, engel fridge, Goodyear Mud-Terrain tyres. |

Are Pirelli 255/55/R19's presently available outside of the United States?

Both my tears were also in the front... Genreally v.good performance from them, but disconcerting that they rip so easily in the tyre wall.
