Opinions please gent's.....

First of all, cracking forum!

I currently have a BMW E60 M5 and am thinking of getting rid to buy an RRS Very Happy

Budget is going to be circa £30k. With this in mind which would be the best to go for? I have never looked in to 4x4's, I have always had sporty motors, but now we have a child they are just so appealing Cool

I was thinking RRS SC as I'm used to 15mpg! I have heard the SC is slightly better than the M5 on the old jungle juice?

A colleague of mine has a 2.7 HSE and as nice as it is, it feels awfully slow so I think I can rule that engine out Rolling Eyes

Also, finally, what are servicing cost like at the main dealers?

Any info appreciated!

Cheers

You could always look at a TDV8 and get it chipped/remapped? WINNER - 2009 ‘Just Doing What It’s Designed To Do’ Award

IMHO you should have a look at TDV8's. That is the engine the Sport should have had from day 1. Get it, chip it and love it to bits.

£30k should get you one of those - probably a pretty early TDv8 about 30 months old with about 30k miles. Stornoway Grey, Rimini Red or White will look the dogs danglies. Do a search on the Landrover.co.uk used car search system for a franchised dealer with one of these. Or try James at CHPR. RRS TDv8 HSE Rimini

TDV8 was the route I was thinking Smile

what do these things hold their value like? The M5 has levelled now and can't see many going for under £25k for a year or 2. I usually keep my cars for 12 months, so rough re sale next Easter?

In the 3 year history of the TDv8 they did the following :

Year 1 - did quite well - there was quite a demand for them and they were the "one to have"
Year 2 - took a horrendous dive - as did all big, top end, 4x4's in 2008
Year 3 - recovered quite strongly such that there was little depreciation at all over the year - albeit from a very low base

I reckon if you bought a 30 month old TDv8 now from a dealer with 6 months warranty left for around £30k you would drop around £8k in the next year. Once out of warranty and with over 50k miles on them I guess a price towards £20k. But I would expect the TDv8 to hold its value better than a TDv6 as there are less around and they are soooo good to drive. RRS TDv8 HSE Rimini

Thanks for that Smarticus Thumbs Up

Were there any changes from the first one's to the current ones? I have read on this forum a rear light change, but you can buy them to update the look, is there anything else?

2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Stornoway Grey

In October 2007 the spec changed very slightly - the handsfree PTi unit under the lid of the centre cubby box was deleted and replaced with an electric adjustment for the steering column which was interconnected with the memory for the seats.................... rear light units stayed the same through out. The Bluetooth PTi software was upgraded as well IIRC 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

TDV8 is a great engine.

One thing I would say though is , if you are buying one that has only a short warranty left on it, make sure that it has had any work required by the various recalls carried out on it before parting with you cash. If you have a look at the forum you will see that there have been a few issues - especially with "knocking Suspension" that have been resolved via recalls. If you buy from an LR main dealer then they should be able to show you the proof that the work has been done on the car you are buying. Good Luck with the purchase and hope to see you on the forum in the future Thumbs Up 2013 Discovery HSE Luxury - 3.0 SDV6 - Santorini Black

THREAD HIJACK

Been looking over the last couple of months for a tidy E60 M5 (V10 of course) for a little run about Question

Sundays are getting very dull in the RRS becuase spot dog is always in the boot (2 year Springer).

What have you got Question Please Twisted Evil Smoke me a kipper: I'll be back for breakfast.

RRS HSE TDV6 gone after 15 months since new - will not be missed I'm afraid - bit of a gremlin in there somewhere - too many issues. Replaced with FFRR Vogue TDV8 - very nice - not as sporty (of course) but absolute luxury.

What are you thinking, a swap?

Send me a PM and I will let you know the details. The M5 is a stunning motor, sadly I always get the itch to change after 12 months of ownership hence the change Crying or Very sad

PM sent but not a swap - RRS belongs to Company Secretary (and she would divorce me if I swapped it) Big Cry Smoke me a kipper: I'll be back for breakfast.

Cheers for all the comments gents Very Happy

I've got a test drive of both the SC and the TDV8 in my local dealers tomorrow lunch time Thumbs Up

My aim is to get a straight swap for my M5, which seems reasonable considering inferior M5's are changing hands in much worse condition than mine for the same money Neutral

My only concern is re sale with these things.......

M5's are rare, and a good one is hard to come by, I spent months looking for mine. Even now, there are only about 80 for sale in the whole of the UK. Now, compare that to the 500 odd RRS and I feel it may be hard to shift on?

Dont get me wrong, the same can be said for the Rangy, but it does worry me a little as to what would make mine should I buy one stand out from the rest come re sale.

I will see how I get on tomorrow anyhow. This is a huge step for me, in the past 5 years I have had 3 M3's, 1 CSL, a Porsche 911 C4s and now the M5, so I'm sure you can understand my worries on the move in to the 4x4 world Bow down

well at least a 4x4 won't put you stern first through a hedge unless you find the ice under all the present snow! NO 4x4, not even the X6M /X5M or the Porsche Cayenne TurboS will give you what an M5 will give you, but at least you have a chance of keeping moving in bad weather! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
