What is this supposed to do? My guess is that, without seeing the TDV8 engine, that you may be screwing up either the MAF, the oxygen sensor or the air intake valve may be sticking a bit, so it's running rich, and consuming more fuel than required... PJPR Cairns Blue HSE 180k Miles of Adventure |

Has the dealer reflashed the ecu by any chance.....a friend of mine had a TDV6 remapped and the dealer did reflash the ecu BUT and it's a big BUT....they did not reflash the whole of the engine maps so the car still appeared to be remapped but whatever changes LR had made was enough to ruin the fuel economy even though performance was about the same!! |

If the ECU has been reflashed by the dealer then it is extremely likely that your remap has been removed. Try reinstalling your chip remap. TDV6 - gone

Yes I agree that is usually true but my friend took his back to the remap guy and they said the car had been reflashed but that some of their remap was still present (there was their tuners signature still in the file)and that LR had altered some parts of the engine map but not everything. In the end they had reloaded the remap and he thinks that has solved the problem |

Did you ever get the remap re-installed?

Leo - This time around I rang Evolve, who were quite happy for me to resend the base program once the car came back from service after a reboot, reprogram again (at no cost) and send it back - all just to make sure that it wasn't an issue with the remap. The guys there have been nothing but helpful and efficient, for which I am very grateful.

No its not the first time Mattserati - and it wont be the last. You need to get the input sensors checked against a good example to determine it. The ECU will only log a fault code on some sensors if they are open or closed circuit - but not when they are out of range slightly. It is normally the Air Mass Meter - the device that tells the ECU the amount of air entering the engine - so that it can determine how much fuel to deliver. You need the technician to check the air flow meter signal voltages with the laptop (or a very accurate digital volt meter or better still a hot live scope on the passenger seat) while driving the car at different engine loads. If it is out of spec it is a throw away item that can not be calibrated - unless you have a poor breather system and it is oil mist film contamination - in which case you can clean the oil off their internals with carb/brake cleaner. As for the maps - they will not make any difference to your problem whether it is standard, re-mapped or not - LR changed the maps slightly in Feb 09 to up 10% power on all engines for better driveability - these are the best economy ones - of which you should have off the latest dealer flash file up-dates. If you do have to change any sensors that are suspect - it is a good idea that they reset the self learn adaptions - these are the self learn peramaters within the engine ECU that learn the drivers habits and react to suit to give you the best operating window within the available power/economy. If you don't reset them it will still self learn the adaptions - but it takes longer. I had the problem on my V8 Diesel RRS - 18-19MPG on 300 miles at 60-70MPH.

Wonder if this LR remap accounts for why my car has been averaging 30+ mpg for the 3 weeks since it was serviced then? Was getting between 26 and 29 in local driving but now I am over the moon that my consumption of tractor juice has dropped especially with the price of fuel leaping up tonight! Since the service I have been averaging between 30 and 34mpg out of my TDv8 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it 2018 Melting Silver Mini Countryman PHEV - soon to be replaced 2015MY Corris Grey SDv6 HSE Dynamic, the best car I have ever owned, totally reliable only a cou0le of rattles in 3 years, now no longer in my care Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW |

So is there a simple way to check which LR map you have? Don't know if I can wait until the next service if there is 20+ horses awaiting. |
