My next car........................

Will definitely be another Land Rover, and one with clever electronics and TR at that. I have just driven 90 miles up the M74 in 5-10cm of driven and drifting snow and used GGS setting for real.................................... incredible, absolutely fantastic. It is now -10c here and most of my trip north from Sway has been in snow and even a hail storm! Best fuel consumption was 33.9mpg from Gaydon Esso Station to just north of Manchester and then as the snow got heavier and the speed dropped so did the fuel consumption as I climbed up to Shap. M6 was totally clear all the way, M74 was a nightmare with abandoned cars and lorries and also jackknifed trucks. Even saw the passenger of a Porsche Cayman out the back pushing it up the middle lane as all the Land and Range Rovers cruised passed in the inner and outer lanes!
I'm now sold on GGS and even on the 20" wheels I felt totally secure and confident just cruising along at 30 in the long queue of other moving cars. Never needed to go into low box once as was able to keep oit moving in hi-box.
BUT Land Rover we need to have a better system for heating the washer lines and also at one stage my headlights dimmed to a glimmer in the driving snow as the heat from the dipped beams and also the fog lights, is not enough to stop the lenses from getting caked with snow so some heated headlamp lenses would be useful too! A great drive home but not one of my fastest! 11 hours from leaving Sway to stepping in my front door - normally I can do it in 9 if I drive at the speed limit. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Don't understand why they haven't done this already. The headlight wipers on the pre '06 FFRR did the job too, while they worked, lol.

Volvo didn't fit mini windscreen wipers to all their older cars for no reason! The wipers with brushes on them that the P38 and Classic had were brilliant 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

you have a valid point, why don't they do this, with the trend going for cooler xenon there is even less heat to melt the snow (or wokka's condensation)

Only had 1in where i live Evil or Very Mad so haven't been able to see how mine copes

My driving lights and front fog lights are now starting to thaw out - there is a disc of ice about 10mm thick inside each of the cowlings - I don't normally drive round with front fogs on but tonight before they dimmed to candles they were VERY useful at reducing the backscatter/ glare from the driving snow, in fact it would have been even better had I been able to switch the headlamps onto side lights and driven just on the front fogs as the beams are that little bit lower that it does make a difference. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Good to hear that you got back safely. 11 is good going as it took our Service Manager 6hrs to do 30 miles on Monday!

All the best for Christmas.

I'm glad I didn't delay my journey for 24hours as it would appear that the M27 is closed for it's entire length due to black ice on the west bound carriageway! Even Land Rovers have a problem with that, maybe LR should start developing the "Black Ice" tyre heaters setting for TR ready for next winter - if F1 can have tyre warms why not Land Rover! Mr. Green

Good luck to Alicatt and family who have just left here to drive to Newcastle having driven most of yesterday evening to get from Wick to these parts. He's using his MTR's and GGS setting and will be on that as soon as he gets south of Hamilton on the M74 until he passes Gretna - 100 miles of hard compacted snow on top of frozen slush, lots of abandoned cars and quite a few jack-knifed trucks to avoid as well - at least it will be daylight, much easier driving than in the dark last night. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Really lovely! Laughing Laughing

I had one better, I think with photos...

Last year, going to the mountain with the dog started snowing... two hours later, 5 fingers of snow, going down had to help a Q7 and a Lexus RH... (that one going with two little babys... Rolling Eyes ).

A lot... with the Q7 we laugh a lot, because here in Spain, the X5, RH, X3, Q5,.. are "low-end luxury" cars, the Range, Cayenne Turbo, Escalade,... are high-end luxury cars, and the Q7 is in the middle, I don't know why, all the Q7 and Cayenne non-turbo are for mummy's going to school OR kids with 25 years old, oakley or rayban sunglasses, iphone, ... (i'm not sure if I'm writing something with sense...).

And the Q7 was a guy, not more than 27 years old, so ***, and we had to pull out with the Sport... without M+S tires, or chains....

***= the word that Jeremy Clarkson uses always for the drivers of BMW M3

I'm sorry, doesn't have pics of all the process, just arriving and seeing the Q7... (the Q7 is the car on the left of the photo, with the warning lights on)
