adaptive headlights - beam too low

I bought my RRS SC, used , one prev' owner and had it looked at by an approved dealer this week because the headlights are dangerously low on dipped beam. They have never adjusted via steering or corrected themselves at start up. The (DDW - or similar) states that the car was sold with Bi-Xenon adaptive headlights. On approved extended warranty - I am covered. Dealer called me - the headlights fitted are Bi-xenon only. Dealer told me to call LR Customer services. They don't want to know. Said that it is probably an admin error and that the car comes with Bi-xenon as standard - the adaptive is an option. (it clearly states on the bill of sale Adaptive) - I was concerned that the car has been involved in front accident and substituted with diff' headlight units. HPI and warranty checks have excluded this. SO...
should the Bi-xenon headlights go through a calibration at start-up? - there are no 'user adjusts' to alter the height of the beam. In fairness to the dealer, they have not charged me for adjusting the beam - which is now noticeably different - although, when I picked it up today - battery was dead - light, or something left on overnight - and it's sitting on my drive at minus 5 degrees presently. Do I just forget it since, I never thought it had adaptive - or in your experiences with LR, should I insist on having AFS lights fitted? Thanks in advance - I did try editing this back.

Zoo - the bi xenons on my TDV8 definitely go through some sort of noticeable self levelling check when turned on. They then settle down very quickly. Hope you get sorted.

same theme, but different angle so to speak, i tend to get flashed a lot when driving on dipped beam as if oncoming vehicles think I am on full beam, still only 2 months old, do they need aligning or anything purple people eater

All,

I have a TDV8, and the AFS are fitted. When I start the car, and then turn on the lights I don't see the headlamps follow the self test. (Well I assume that it is a self test.) If the headlamps are set to auto, and the car is started in the dark I see the headlamp move up, down, left and right.

Hope this helps to explain?

I had a problem with my lights when new. Do the lights seem fine when first switched on and then very bright once you have used the full beam? If so your problem might be in the headlight unit. There is a little flap inside the light that goes up when on full beam, this flap can stick in the up position. You can bodge the job to fix it but best get the repair done on warranty - new light needed. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

Zoo, adaptive headlights were standard on S/C from day one - I would suggest that the previous owner had changed the unit to similar ones to the Hawks that I had on my car and used the standard non-adaptive lamps to save money at part exchange time. At £544+Vat each, headlight units are not cheap items to replace so they will not be keen to swop them without a fight, even though the car is supposed to have adaptives 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Sorry misread this post - as Tim said the SC came with adaptive xenons as standard, I would push the dealer on this - it is what you paid for and you might have a problem when you come to sell. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten
