Good news I hope 640....

Over and above the yet to be proven fix, have they offered you any compensation for your inconvenience?

Also from my experience, suggest you give you car a thorough road test..

Also before you drive it, and again from experience, check the inside and outside for marks etc that were not there when you left the car with them 34 days ago!!

I'm curious as well...one thing you might want to check before you drive off the lot is to compare how many kilometers/miles you had on the vehicle when it was dropped off and how many are on it when you pick it up.

There's no doubt you lit a fire under them with the letters...sometimes that's the only way to motivate them.

Do you have an independent LR shop nearby to whom you can take it and put it on Testbook to see if they see those same codes that the dealer told you - at least you'd be able to verify that they didn't feed you a line of BS. PJPR

That's a good idea PJPR01. There are a couple of other dealers that I can take it to and get it checked out. This will depend on whether your current dealer has cleared all the fault codes and, if they have been deleted, can these codes can be resurrected by another dealer later . Malaysia Boleh!

Well I have the vehicle back and it all seems to be working like new. I gave it a very good look over and they had done a good job of detailing the car; no scratches or bumps to report. The car drove very well and seems to be functioning ok. Over the weekend I'll try and do a little bit of off-road low-range driving to give it a proper test.

The car had done about 30 miles on the clock from when I left it there 37 days ago, so I'm quite comfortable that was all related to test drives by the various technical engineers.

The dealer wasn't overly apologetic, rather they hoped that they wouldn't see me again until my next scheduled service in the new year. I am still going to pursue LRA about the lack of customer service ethic from the dealer but not entirely sure that it will result in any change of behaviours.

So as it stands I'm back feeling happy again and driving the RRS again after a month with that barge of a D3, I must confess that I arrived home with a massive grin on my face, content with my decision to get the RRS over that soft excuse of a D3. 2008 TDV8, Stornoway Grey with Alpaca premium leather, Adaptive cruise, Adaptive Bi-xenons, sunroof, Premium Nav, Premium ICE Logic 7, telephone, active locking rear diff, console coolbox, seat memory, powerfold mirrors, tow pack, window tint, dual battery, engel fridge, Goodyear Mud-Terrain tyres.

Great news 640, hope its is a permanent fix! Thumbs Up And I hope you get some further compensation!

I'm sure your dealer wasn't happy that you went over their heads to Land Rover Australia, and were probably given a slap or two! Laughing

I'd like to understand why the dealers don't call Land Rover Australiain earlier (I'm assuming its the dealers choice)..?? In my instance it was 6 months before Land Rover Australia were called in, and at that point they'd already replaced the steering rack and steering column to no avail!

Funny you should ask that 2R.

When LRA called me yesterday they said that my letter to them was the first contact they had received about the problem. I had no hesitation in letting them know that their dealer had been telling me that all their advice was coming directly from LRA, who were being fully briefed on the problem. It seems the dealers must either be charged a fee or receive black marks against them if they have to refer a problem to LRA, so they drag it out in the hope that LRA don't ever find out. 2008 TDV8, Stornoway Grey with Alpaca premium leather, Adaptive cruise, Adaptive Bi-xenons, sunroof, Premium Nav, Premium ICE Logic 7, telephone, active locking rear diff, console coolbox, seat memory, powerfold mirrors, tow pack, window tint, dual battery, engel fridge, Goodyear Mud-Terrain tyres.

Just in case anyone is interested, here is the full report on what they attempted as part of my fix:

internal fault in transfer case ecu wiring harness checked for faults found P0195-00 and P0806-00, checked wiring sign at gear position sensor ok, lowered transfer case for access and replaced gear position sensor, tried to calibrate transfer case ecu, unable to calibrate, contacted tech assist. TR68951 see in attachment, rechecked T/C ecu connections as requested, all ok, swaped ecu with donor car as requested tried to calibrate, unable to calibrate, fault code change from P0195-00 to P0196-00 with other ecu, replaced transfer case wiring harness (engine bay to case) as requested by tech. tried to reset DTC's and claibrate using IDS not able to calibrate. test failed repeatedly. substituted transfer case range change motor from donor vehicle (lowered gear box/transfer case on both vehicles for access) DTC still present and calibration not possible, replaced transfer case as requested, tried to clear DTC's and calibrate, still no change, tried to individually calibrate transfer case as requested, still not possible, rechecked wiring harness from ecu and all sensors and motors on transfer case and range switch all ok. Oliver & Graham visited workshop to check issue, found internal fault on ecu, replaced ecu as requested. cleared DTC's and claibrated transfer case, road tested all ok.

The service manager said the problem with the ECU was it was taking in 12v but only passing 9v out the other side so it was causing all sorts of errors. 2008 TDV8, Stornoway Grey with Alpaca premium leather, Adaptive cruise, Adaptive Bi-xenons, sunroof, Premium Nav, Premium ICE Logic 7, telephone, active locking rear diff, console coolbox, seat memory, powerfold mirrors, tow pack, window tint, dual battery, engel fridge, Goodyear Mud-Terrain tyres.

I also hypothesised that they must get charged for a visit from the LRA Tech Reps a la some sort of product consultancy model...

As for LRA not knowing about it! Well I'm not buying that as LRA would have had to approve each and every part and labour claim they wrongly did as being paid for by warranty. First hand experience tells me the dealer would not have risked not getting paid for work that LRA would later reject!

Again funny you should mention this as the dealer tried to give me the big sob story when I got there about how hard it was to fix and how they spent approx 70 hours working on it and now they had to go to LRA to see if they were going to get paid for their time.

Not sure who to believe really. 2008 TDV8, Stornoway Grey with Alpaca premium leather, Adaptive cruise, Adaptive Bi-xenons, sunroof, Premium Nav, Premium ICE Logic 7, telephone, active locking rear diff, console coolbox, seat memory, powerfold mirrors, tow pack, window tint, dual battery, engel fridge, Goodyear Mud-Terrain tyres.
