Not mine tho
I drive a LHD UK registered TDV8 and reside (part time) in a european country.
Import duty is high here also but it is the insurance that is the killer here €4000 per year compared with £358 in UK for a simillar level of cover.
For my motorbike they wanted €3000 and I was paying £315 in the UK. At least when my R1 got stolen it was still under UK cover and I got the value of it back and bought a 1300 with it, now I pay €215 third party only.
Right need to go fit the winter tyres to the car today Smile Sons of dogs come hither and get flesh

Have noticed that insurance companies seem to heavily load premiums if your driving licence is not issued in the country that you are driving in. When the EU was coming into being one thought was you could go to any country and get cover anywhere, but in practise it costs an arm and a leg and thats if they will quote you.

I can get property insurance in the Channel Isl;ands for property in the UK at a good saving, but try and insure a car in England from the Channel Islands then it it will cost 3 times the rate you would be quoted in England and be in no doubt that they really don;t want your business.

Think Coko was paying some horrendus premium in this country, which was probably due to his non english licence

If you are a Brit in Europe and can use a UK address then Land Rover Insurance has unlimited continental use as a standard cover on it's policies - I'm now paying £185pa for the TDv8 to them which is fully comp and includes offroad use and recovery, unlimited continental driving and lots of other things that not even the directline type insurers can match. Nearest quote I got from any of them was £650 pa from e-sure, the rest were much higher or refused to quote unless a Tracker was fitted.
My premium dropped 50% this year because they recategorised my job and I am deemed to be a lower risk, I don't mind paying £185 for a host of thing I won't use just to get the premium so low. The TDv8 now costs the same to insure with LRI (really Royal and Sun Alliance) as my 13 year old Defender which has the same cover. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

My partner is from Belgium and has a european driving licence, putting her on my policy as a named driver actually brought it down and in the case of my MG it brought it down by a lot. I don't have full no claims bonus yet as up until a few years ago I only drove company cars and the insurance companies would only give a small discount for that. LR Insurance quoted me at £700 fully comp compared with Admiral at £358 including extended european cover. Sons of dogs come hither and get flesh

Never heard a named driver bringing the insurance down before, but not surprised, they all seem to have their little quirks.

One thing for sure you do have to shop round nowadays. Always used to use NFU, who always provided the best cover for the cheapest quote, but now, do not find them at all competitive and have become quite expensive over the past couple of years

Portugal 2008 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Lucerne Green

Hi, the add is genuine. I bought the car just over a year ago but am now looking to sell now.
Although i live in Portugal, I still use a UK mobile number.
As you guys have mentioned, its registered in the Uk to avoid the crazy Portuguese import duty charges. Insurance costs aren't too bad. 2008 RRS Supercharged
