new rrsport

Hello guys, im new to this so be easy with me.

i basically am fixed on getting a range rover sport.

i originally wanted a 4.2s/c but after a couple of reveiws and word of mouth it seems that it jus drinks too much, especially if i am going to be driving it every day and theres no set amount of mileage which i am going to do. please post opinions on this.

so it has come down to the 3.6tdv8 which to be honest seems to be more expensie then the 2.7tdv6 and the 4.2, so taking this into account it seems that i have to settle with the 2.7tdv6.

can you please tell me what this rr is like to drive, e.g power, feul etc.

thank you very much Thumbs Up

United Kingdom 2006 Range Rover Sport TDV6 SE Java Black

Welcome Tony,

If you've decided the budget won't stretch to a TDV8, you won't be disappointed with a TDV6.

However, it's not quick - more of a cruiser. There is a fair bit of Turbo lag, so you won't win many red light drag races.
Saying that, with the grip from the 4wd you can easily get away at junctions, roundabouts etc.

Once on the move and the turbo is spinning, it is quite responsive and mid range overtakes are quite easy. Yhe gearbox is pretty good and works well with the TDV6

The TDV8 is much better, barely any lag and the power seems always available.

I would think, unless you're a vicar, the TDV8 and 6 will give similar mpg. As the TDV6 will need to be worked harder than the 8.

The S/C is great fun but as you say it's thirsty when driven enthusiastically.

Good Luck Thumbs Up

What sort of budget are you looking at Question

Theres a few option open depending on budget

The For Sales sections, got a good example of a TDV8 for sale by Wokkaman

then there are the forum sponsors who might be able to source a car, speak with James at CHPR or Kam at MHC Finance who might be able to source you one and meet or beat finance making it slightly more affordable

my budget is about 20-25.

if i do buy a tdv6 i will probly look into a ecu re map, or chipping it. or in the extreme case with left over pocket will fund a bigger turbo.

a few examples:

Plenty of people have remapped the TDV6 and been pleased with the results.

Two of the Sponsors here provide remaps and have good feedback and discounts for fforum members. Turbochip and BAS, check the Sponsors page.

I understand your requirement of low mileage, and that it restricts your choice of cars available.

Be wary when looking at S spec RRS. The basic spec is very low, and some have been specced up quite well, but remember that they will all be specced differently by the purchaser.

The S didn't have the following as standard:

Leather
Reaonable size wheels
Xenons
Heated/Electric Seats
Folding Mirrors
Park Distance Control
Heated Screen
Decent Audio
Sat Nav

The first one only has 17 wheels, and look like castors from an old settee. Will ruin the look of the car.
The other two don't seem too badly specced.
Have you seen any low mileage SEs, they have a much better spec than the S as standard. For a fair bit less than the HSE. But they are rarer than S specs.
Trust me if you are looking for black with privacy glass and sidesteps, then when you gt your car you will put 20s on it. So be worth trying to find one with 20s already.

One more thing to confuse you even more.

A S/C will be pretty much fully specced. So although a lot more juicy than the diesels, you will get all the toys as standard.

You will have higher running costs, but will get more car for your money. And great fun the S/C is a different beast from the TDV6.

Sorry for confusing you. Wink

thanx for the reply

chipping it or remap is the first thing which i will do , and will be doing it within the first week of purchase. whats the best place to get the chipping or remap taken care of

thanx for the advice on the specs, i needed that heads up. TBH wats da point of a range without them specs Mr. Green

i have alot of plans for the range. looks like them favours owed to me will come in handy, e.g 1 freind is shipping to me custom made 22 inch black with chrome lip alloys. which i can say with confidence has neva before been seen.

the looks of the car is something that i can take care of its just the power which will need some attention. Cool

.

Sexy Pauly tanx for da post, the thing is that i do alot of miles, i just had enough of being best friends with my local petrol station.

i currently driving a c55 amg and as you can geuss its a v v thirsty car.

however if the amount iof miles decreases i will be most likely trading the tdv6 to the s/c

tony,

i have 22inch black rims with chrome Lips, shipped over from the US, no one else has them in the UK, but wouldnt you rather have the power of a supercharged before you do all that? its kinda like dressing up a fat chic with a pushup bra and miniskirt, where as pimping up a supercharged is like adorning a beautiful supermodel with agent provocoteur! RR Sport supercharged 06

Sexy Pauly v nicley put hahahahah.

any chance of piks of your alloys.

i understand what your implying but the reason the decrease in engine size is purely for the amount of miles that i do.
