Cleaning The Engine

What is the best way to clean the engine bay? I have seen some photos in previous posts of cars getting detailed and having the engine bay cleaned as well and the results look fantastic.

Is there anything that is important and needs to be noted as the last thing i need is the car not starting.

cover the cars electrical areas and sensors with clingfilm and use low pressure hose and all purpose cleaner with a cloth, small brush, stiff brush etc then rinse again at low pressure

Then use your choice of plastic covering, things like Auto Glym Vinyl or 303 Aerospace Protectant

rinse down the bay with a high power wash
Meguiars engine degreaser sprayed liberally throughout the engine bay
work it in with a small brush all over ( round painting brush of alike will do)
Rinse with a high power wash
dry with a leaf blower if you hand one
then all season dressing sprayed on and applied with a cloth

if your worried about the electric's leave the car running whilst u wash and obviously try to steer clear of any electrical areas.

all products should be available from www.elitecarcare.co.uk enter discount code DC on checkout for a cheeky wee saving

if its a diesel then no worries as their electrics are covered just wash as mentioned. Just do not blast the power washer in to connection etc. remember to real oil hinges and the bonney latch after. if its petrol just be sure to cover the coil packs etc as these really do not like water and will go haywire. have done mine many times and no problems.

There's a very vulnerable module behind the battery box (pre 2010 M/Ys)- many have got water in there and the results aren't good. Be careful......
