My Bad Week Vs Good Week

Ok, Bad week 1st :- I picked my car up from the dealer following the recall work being carried out, part of which was the replacement of the high pressure fuel pump. Drove the car home, parked it and didn't use it for a day.
On the sunday night the missus & I fancied a take away so I ordered it and set off to collect it. About 1/2 way there i went round a sharp bend and suddenly found myself sideways on what is a very narrow bit of road. It felt like i'd hit ice Shocked but the temp was too high. The rear tyre hit the verge and propelled the car back in the right direction - Lucky really, cos as far as I'm concerned without that I'd definately lost control! I managed to stabalise the car and assumed that I must have hit some spilt diesel, and the wet road had made it very slick.
I carried on the journey (vey carefully) and all seemed ok,until I came to a roudabout, as I went around it the car spun out again!! F Censored K ME Shocked what was going on here? I stopped the car and had a look but could see nothing wrong (it was dark though). After collecting the takeway I drove home never going over 20mph. Near home on a quiet straight bit of road I decided to do a test, the car behaved fine in a straight line but as soon as I swerved from side to side it began to slide again!! Testing over, I got home and called LR assistance (Which by the way is CR Censored P now that the AA have taken it over and sacked all the LR Tech guys). They sent a recovery truck next morning and as the guy was loading the car onto the truck we could see fuel absolutely pouring out from under the car, it was in the middle approx where the gearbox is. That would explain the weird handling then, I was skidding my rear wheels on my own diesel!! Shocked The dealer found that the fuel pipe from the HP Fuel pump had blown off. They refitted it and road tested the car. Exactly the same thing happened to them. They checked the pipes fitting mechanism but it seemed ok. They therefore decided to repace it with a brand new pipe (which,by the way,is NOT part of teh recall procedure) this solved the problem. They sent the old pipe back to LR who have "analysed it" and stated that this is an isolated "one off"failure of this particular part and therefore there is no further action required! Well, all I can say is, I hope they a right because they could have killed me and if it does happen to someone else they might not be as lucky as I was and as LR now know about the failure they'd deserve to get their A Censored se sued! I have to say that at all times during this my dealer acted with real concern and proffessionalism & I can't fault them, they communicated with me frequently about what they were doing and what LR were saying. They even replaced my slightly damaged rear tyre free of charge Thumbs Up BUT - there in lies another sad story in my unlucky week - Only days after having the new tyre fitted free I ended up with a puncture! Yep you guessed it, in my brand new tyre & worst of all it ended up being a nail right through next to the tyre wall rendering it unrepairable and costing me £230 to have it replaced Big Cry Someone upstairs must really hate me Confused Whistle

Now on the "Good Week" front - The same dealer has finally managed to do me a decent deal and I am now the expectant father of a new baby - namely a new MY10 RRS in Santorini Black, 3.0 Litre TDV6 HSE with Privacy Glass, Premium ebony leather with contrast stitching Mr. Green We have also ordered a new Freelander 2 HSE for Mrs Endjin to replace the Boxster as she isn't feeling happy about transporting our 8 month old wee boy around the winter roads of aberdeenshire in it. Thumbs Up 2013 Discovery HSE Luxury - 3.0 SDV6 - Santorini Black

Cheers Guys Thumbs Up

@ npinks - Yeah, the dealer was great, they gave the car a real good check over. The Service Manager is a Top bloke - same guy that gave us a big LR Teddy Bear for our Son when he was Born Smile - He knows my Wife & Baby and he was horrified that it could have been them in the car. It was pure luck that it wasn't a serious accident! If anything else had been on the road there was no way of avoiding a collision, as the road was very narrow and my car was completely sideways Shocked I really hope that LR's techie guys have got their facts right
when they say it was a "one off" and there's no wider issue with the fuel pipes, I'd hate anyone else to have it happen to them! 2013 Discovery HSE Luxury - 3.0 SDV6 - Santorini Black

Shocked No way man - That just sucks. I actually forgot to mention about the fuel loss. My dealer filled my tank
& also steam cleaned the engine bay and underside but there was never even a suggestion that they would charge me! How long ago did this happen to you & was it after work being done on the car? This also kinda suggests the the LR techies are taking a huge risk by stating mine was a "one off". This fault could kill people Shocked

Has anyone else on the forum had this happen? If so then I'd be happy to feed back to my dealer so they can
put it to LR - I feel pretty strongly about this, after all if they know about such a dangerous fault and that it has happened on multiple cars then they are really pushing their luck Evil or Very Mad 2013 Discovery HSE Luxury - 3.0 SDV6 - Santorini Black

Believe me it was a nightmare...
I had my 16 month old son in the car it was
8.30 in the morning was taking him to my parents 20 miles away
got on to m25 noticed my rear screen really smearing up
then fuel gauge dropping really fast
came off m25 and noticed back wheels starting to loose grip and control
got to my parents and when i opened my door i could see the whole underneath of the car covered in diesel
rac had to recover me to chipperfield land rover and they said that as car out of warranty
i had to pay
4 hours in garage loss of 3/4 tank of fuel and a bill for £250.00 + loss of a days earnings
i also was told it was a one off
what i found really strange was that the garage told me the fuel pipe just pushes onto the fuel filter with no clip to secure
i feel that i should not have had to pay!
