Advised to remove my All Terrain Tyres by Land Rover

Last week I was on a teleconference with Land Rover Australia - specifically one of their Senior Managers and their most Senior Technician.

During the call I was told by the Senior Manager that Land Rover Australia recommended that I remove my all terrain tyres (General Grabber AT2), and that I drive both on and off road with my road tyres fitted.

Thought it worth a mention to those who use none road tyres for either on or off road driving.

I have a couple of ongoing problems, which I'll detail in a much longer post, and Land Rover are now blaming the tyres. At the same time on the call, Land Rover Australia said that I shouldn't use the All Terrain tyres and questioned why I had them/needed them.

This contradicts advice I previously received, as I called Land Rover Australia customer care before buying the tyres last year and they said then that I could fit All Terrain Tyres in the correct size. The General Grabbers AT2's were then recommended by the dealer - Melbourne Land Rover (MLR).

I obviously chose to buy them from somewhere that was a lot cheaper than the dealer, but am now effectively being sent away! Evil or Very Mad

Agreed NPinks...

The Land Rover Australia Senior Manager said that all Land Rover Australia cars were used with road tyres off road.. He obviously isn't aware of these Land Rover Australia press cars doing the 60th Anniversary crossing..

it annoys me (so god knows how your feeling) that LR can start blaming things that they know will not cause the problem, but start using it as an excuse to get out of doing a proper fix

Not the same league as yours but they blamed me putting the seatbelt on wrong, and this was causing the wear in the b-pillar due to the belt rubbing it Rolling Eyes

When LR start recommending you shouldn't fit offroad tyres to their vehicles you know something is up.

What next? McDonalds suggesting you don't eat burgers when you arrive? Shocked

what a complete joke. We should challenge LR to come out on a proper trip, involving any combination of wet mud/clay/sharp rocks/serious climbs/decents and see just how long a set of standard road tyres last. The side walls on the standard road tyres are as weak as a wet paper back and they clog up quicker than a dutchman when the soil/clay gets wet.

As mentioned, I don't see them using standard road tyres on any of the G4 cars. It may be down to the fact that the AT or MT/R tyres don't have a high enough speed rating on them and that LR are just covering their corporate rear.

Saying that, I love my MT/Rs and they will be on the car soon if the weather keeps getting worse here. Sons of dogs come hither and get flesh

My issues are speed related, but nowhere need the speed limits of the tyres or the car.

This is just Land Rover Australia guessing that it is my tyres, and asking me to put my road tyres on the car in the hope I no longer notice the issues and then drive for another year until the warranty ends!

What a load of bs! Clearly they think the customers are idiots, hope LR isn't being run by guys who have no clue about what off roading is or what the heritage of the company is.
