Exporting from the UK..

Hi guys,

Has anybody experience with buying a RRS/FFRR in the UK and exporting it to a EU country? Looking to buy a new RRS or FFRR early next year. Thought of looking into that option mainly due to a low GBP.
How long can you keep your tax-exempt plates, how does it work with warranty issues etc. etc...

Your comments would be highly appreciated Thumbs Up

Guess it might be cheaper buying in the US but that's probably a whole different story Wink Exclamation

Thx

JJ

JJ, we bought our RRS in UK and brought it with us to Cyprus.

Any issues were mainly down to beaurocracy of the destination country.

Warranty is europe wide but never needed it with ours (Issues waited until end of warranty then materialised Evil or Very Mad ) Runner up - 2009 Best Avatar Award Sad

Also, I have a vague recollection of there being something to do with the satnav on US models not working over here... Confused

And you don't get Powerfold Mirrors in the States, thanks to Health & Safety. Wink

You might even have to get someone to walk in front of it with a Red Flag. Laughing

Think you will find that you have to own the car for 6 months min before you can export or you will be hit by taxes of the country you import to.

You will also need a certificate of conformity which Landrover will charge you £92 for.

this link might help on the Landrover site as they do Personell exports

True, but at least you do not pay taxes in the origin country. My gallery: http://www.rrsport.co.uk/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=994

Sometimes it is preferential to pay the taxes in the destination country.

My issue here in Cyprus is Vehicle excise duty which is loaded on engine cc, then further loaded on CO2 emmissions.

I think this also exists in Eire and Portugal (IIRC) Runner up - 2009 Best Avatar Award Sad

We actually do not have the choice: in Italy we must pay 20% taxes on the total price of the car (which is the overall price minus 15% of GB taxes). My gallery: http://www.rrsport.co.uk/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=994

VAT here is permanently @ 15% so when UK returns to 17.5%, it would be preferable to defer the VAT at purchase time in UK, export and pay it here. Runner up - 2009 Best Avatar Award Sad

mate, you ought to check first if you can get the car registered in your country at all. I know that in Slovakia it was not possible to register a RHD car. Twisted Evil
