big flaw in sat nav

previously discussed/mentioned here, but the way the sat nav calculates estimate time of arrival is so insanely ludicrously Censored that it really makes you wonder who designed it

this was really important yesterday when I had to get somewhere on time, eventually I managed it anyway, but the sat nav was a good 90 minutes out on its calculation... NOT because of traffic but because 90% of the journey was on the motorway

the logic is something like.. "take the average speed for the last 10 minutes/10 miles, and assume the entire journey will be completed at that speed"

RIDICULOUS

is it fixed in MY10?

did a couple of hundred mile trip in the new MY10 usuing the NAV and it seems to be accurate within a few mins - and A LOT easier to use tha the old system.

Re: big flaw in sat nav

I am aware of this also we have noticed that on one section of the M3 as you approach the A303 sat nav seems to add an hour to the journey which later disappears once on the A303 very very weird, but I am not too worried as I am due to change car to a new RRS in March and can live with this for the moment.

Odd though sat nav does have the odd issue. Range Rover Sport HSE TDV6 - 08 Plate

The wife thinks the sat nav in the RRS is C Censored P and always takes her TomTom as it is much more accurate (and it is!) Sons of dogs come hither and get flesh

I have to agree that the RRS nav is the worst I've used.....I assume the 2010 cars have improved software or is it still based upon the same system? I appreciate it's now HD based rather than DVD based but is the software any different?

Yes, it's the latest JLR incarnation - as seen in FL2 and Jag XF, I believe.
