It is a fantastic car, the E60 M5. The performance is stunning, it drives like a dream and the gizmos are great and work very effectively (regardless of that luddite Clarkson saying it's all too complicated). If I didn't have Shmoogle Jr, there would be one on my driveway right now... when he's a bit older and there's less need to drag countless tons of clutter around with him, try and keep me away! Thumbs Up

Thanks Shmoogle. That's decided then I'm booking a test drive.

I've always been a massive fan of M cars in general, but especially M5's. Even back to the early M535i's. Runner up - 2009 Best Avatar Award Sad

Excellent - let us know what you think of it once you've done it. Also book yourself into your local plastic surgeon who will need to remove the grin from your face Wink I only had about 2hrs to play in one and it was the quickest two hours I think I've ever experienced.

Lucky - not had a chance to drive an M6 yet and I'd never buy one anyway, the M5 is much better value for minutely less performance. I do like the M6 wheels though, very smart! Very Happy

I agree Shmoogle. The ONLY gripe I'd have with the M5 is that it doesn't LOOK like c.£25k more expensive than a 535d Sport (Except for quad pipes).

The wheels are very similar to 3/5series sport.

Still, if I had the spare cash...

Incidentally, I think the M5 has marginally more power than the M6 due to shortening the exhaust (Or something). It was the same when they briefly introduced the mad looking M coupe a few years ago. It had a few horses less than the M3. Runner up - 2009 Best Avatar Award Sad

I really cant justify the £65k a M5 will cost (my company), and deffo couldnt justify the £80k an M6 is! it just seems a lot of extra cash for some thing that really only looks different.. if u know what i mean.. all the running gears the same but has a different body..

That said i came up with a pritty convincing argument with myself last night to justify the M5... plus a 20k balloon payment would drop the monthlys from £1400 to £1000 which is the limit i set myself.. oh god here comes the arguement again.. lol

Really? I thought they were rated identically with the M6 0.1s quicker to 62 than the M5...

You're right though, the fact that it doesn't look like £62k's worth of car does lead a lot of people to whinge and moan... but it's the ultimate stealthmobile in my opinion. If you're not in the know about the quad pipes, alloys and wing vents then your in for a surprise when you try and beat it off the lights in your 535d (or your 550i come to that).

The M5 Touring... that will be the perfect car for the family man like my good self! Thumbs Up
