or should that be how long before the engine loosens up? Currently getting about 26mpg (done 480 miles) and I would have thought it would be better than this. I assume the mpg wont be around 30mpg until the engine has properly loosened. So is this about 1000 miles? Majority of mileage has been A road / motorway.

3000-5000 miles, you should be better placed to see better fuel economy. While running her in you shouldn't really drive at constant speeds, vary them. I think the manual on my D3 said keep her below 70mph and less than 2000rpm until past 600miles.

I didnt think you had to "run" these engines in anymore?? Have to say my dealer didnt even mention anything about running it in when i collected mine?? Im taking it steady when my family are in the car with me - but i give it some stick everytime im on my own in it regardless!! Even on the way back from the dealers when i picked it up i hit 120mph on the M1 and didnt think twice about it!! Im sure these engines are fine and unless you red line it everwhere from cold, i dont think you need to worry about it. Happy to be corrected though if someone knows for sure im wrong?? 2010MY RRS TDV6 HSE |

combined mpg is usually achievable, or very near, on the motorway.

Think the most important thing for new engines is not staying at a constant rpm.
