England 2007 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Zermatt Silver
Newbie Q & Gearbox

Hi, I'm new to the site and new to RRS's - just bought a TDV8 (2007 - 30,000 miles) and I'm very pleased with it on the whole, but it keeps catching me out with the ''lazy'' gearbox/throttle response. When I've slowed down or stopped for a junction it seems to take an age to get back on the power and get going again - it's like it's pausing to think about getting going !!!

It's quite annoying and keeps catching me out pulling out of junctions and to be honest it's the only thing I can fault the car on.

I've read on this site about adaptive gearbox and it 'learning' your driving style ......could it be this ?? can it be reset ??? or maybe something else ?? or maybe that's how they are !!!

Any info greatly appreciated.

Otherwise great car.

There is a known lag in the diesels (both 6 and 8-cylinder), but can be removed by chipping... speak to our forum sponsor Pete Bell at BAS - he can sort you out with something suitable.

United Kingdom 2010 Range Rover Sport 3.0 TDV6 HSE Santorini Black

Yup, that's the 'old' TD engine for you. Wink If you know anything about turbo engines, they use the exhaust gasses to spin a compressor to charge the air into the cylinders before combustion. Trouble is the turbo is a relatively heavy thing which takes a bit of time to spin up. The new 3.0 TDV6, uses 2 turbos now to avoid this, a smaller lighter one is used to get up and go and then the larger one is used essentially from then.

If I could afford to spend £5k a year on petrol, I'd go circa petrol engine everytime if I wanted a sports car like drive. 2010MY Land Rover Freelander 2 HSE
