Conti wear

I'm grounded till I get 4 new tyres fitted tomorrow.

The FNS one on the outer shoulder, where the characteristic wear happens, is just starting to show some cord Exclamation

First time that has happened Exclamation Still about 3mm of thread in the centre 2/3rds.

So my advice is keep an eye on those shoulders. Could have been embarrasing Embarassed And very expensive. TDV6 - gone

Josh,

that's very interesting and somewhat concerning, I thought the TSB on Conti wear described this as cosmetic?

Shoulder showing cord with 3mm tread across the centre doesn't sound like cosmetic to me. I know a tyre on 3mm will not perform as well as a tyre with more tread, but wouldn't expect cord to appear yet?

Thanks for the tip, have been monitoring mine already, but will step it up. Or get them replaced.

Were your tyres replacements or original supplied by LR?

I would take it up with the dealer based on the TSB, if original.

Sadly it's on its 3rd set of tyres now (would have been 2nd set but for a wheel and tyre change midway through 2nd set), so no comeback with LR.

Full set of Contis just been fitted by kwikfit mobile. Tyre fitter said there was only just over 2mm left on them so it was time to go anyway. I asked about the cord exposure on the shoulder and he said it was quite common on this vehicle.

First time I've seen it after 3 1/2 years and two RRS's. But something else to watch for and avoid, as you'd get 3 points and £60 fine for it Exclamation TDV6 - gone

Josh I have run 21k miles so far on my original set of Pirellis which I wasn't looking forward to as my experience with them in the passed has been that they wear badly......................... I have slight shoulder wear on the front near side too as you will see if you look at the "...... is jinxed" photos in the My Range Rover Sport section. Car will be two years old on 26 October. Tread is still 4mm or more on all the tyres 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

The people that are paying insist that it's Contis on it. Tried telling them that LR now fit pirellis and although Pirellis are more expensive initially they might last longer but it fell on deaf ears.

Got 2 more years of maintenance contract. So it's their problem Rolling with laughter

After that I think I'll be using Hankooks or probably even drop down to 19" for my rural life style and fit something that will cope with all weathers and rocky/flint type ground and a bit more protection. TDV6 - gone

I love companies that don't listen to advice, but I guess they have rigid policies they have to follow. Confused

If you do drop to 19's, the MY2010 15 spoke 19's look Cool

You can stay on the 20" even for country roads Josh as I live in the sticks but NOT up a long lane and have no issues with them at all, would say that you might think about a set of winter tyres on 19" wheels like a few of us here have - put them on when the temperature is consistently less than 7C and take them off in the spring when it warms up again. I run on Pirelli Scorpion Ice and Snow in 19" on a set of 2nd hand RRS HSE wheels bought off a member here. TBH I could probably get away with all year round use on the 20's here as if we get a real dump of snow (deepest I have seen here is 6"!) then the RRS stays at home and I use the Defender.
Maybe you should consider a Defender90 instead of new wheels and tyres/ new RRS! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Defender 90......I'd love one. If only they weren't so easy to nick.

I think my diamond cut 20's might suffer badly with repeated ventures into the mountains. I'll have a chat with the local dealer when I move and see what's best for all round use.
And the sea air might not be good for the laquer TDV6 - gone

Good Choice Thumbs Up

I'd imagine there'll be quite a few on ebay soon, once 2010 owners have upgraded.

IIRC the 2.4 Puma engined version of Defender has the same system as RRS Josh. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
