4.4 V8 petrol

Hi guys!
I'm following this forum for a while now, and finally decided to register and to ask you some questions. I'm writing you from Croatia with a question regarding 4.4 V8 petrol RRS.

I'm thinking of buying one – a friend is selling his 2007 model (HSE, side steps, towing pack, 19“ wheels), 26.000 kilometers and he is asking 30000€. I know the history of his car from day one, I've drove it a few times, and the car is in excellent shape, once a year it had a regular maintenances in LR service, and the only thing that need to be changed on it are the tires.

The car has some problems with navigation (probably due the out-dated map), I didn't hear the knocking sound from suspension and the feeling on the brake pedal is a bit soft but that was the first time I drove it a year ago. I think the price is fair as well.

I was searching the forum but I didn't find much information about 4.4 V8 petrol engine. I know it's a thirsty one – a friend's car average is 18liters/100km in the town and it's OK with me. But my question is about reliability and bugs concerning this petrol engine and transmission. Is here any owner and could you please give me some experience with this type of RRS.

Thanx

United Kingdom

The lack of 4.4 info is to do with the fact that is didn't spend long on sale in the UK so there were very few sold here. There will be more on the 4.4 unit in the US forum (rangerovers.net) as it's still for sale over there.

It's only a bit less thirsty than the SC 4.2 engine and if you were in a position to not worry about the economy it wasn't worth going for the 4.4 - thus it didn't sell, thus it was removed from the market. It's not a bad engine though, if a bit long in the tooth now.

Thanx for the info. This 4.4 V8 is not BMW engine, right? It's Jaguar?

Wales 2006 Range Rover Sport 4.4 V8 HSE Java Black

I ran a 4.4 petrol V8 for 3 years and never had any issues with it. My fuel economy was 17.5mpg around town and 23mpg on a run. It's faster than the TDV6 but not quite as fast as the 4.2 SC (10mph slower top speed and 1 sec 0-60mph).
The exhaust note was great - a well engineered engine!
You shouldn't have any problems as long as it's been regularly services and you don't need the economy of diesel.
ANT Range Rover Evoque 5 door on order.
2006Java/Alpaca/4.4HSE/PTIS/Tracker/pp/Tasmods/Black side repeaters/Custom exhaust (gone but not forgotten!)

Thanky you. Next week the car will go to a LR service for a full checkup, and if everything is OK (as it seems to be) then I'll buy it.
