2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Stornoway Grey

Well all the normal 2nd hand car things I suppose but in addition

a) Look at the front valance/spoiler and remove the cover for the recovery eye and see if there is any mud in there.... a sign the car has been offroad or across fields

b) If it is at a dealer then ask them to print out the service history from the central database - need the VIN for this

c) Check the wheels for kerbing

d) Is the car on OEM wheels or not - if not are they bigger than 20", LR don't engineer the car to run on anything bigger than 20" wheels

e) If the wheels are new, if you can, check the wheels are Original LR wheels and not fakes (you would need to look at the back of the rims for this

f) Check all the electrical toys and air con are working

g) If the car has tow pack check all the bits are there - tow hook is removable and gets stowed under the boot floor

h) If you can drive the car check there is no steering shimmy, the exhaust isn't black and that it pulls cleanly
with no transmission shunt

i) If you can drive it then test the EPB - not that it engages but that it disengages cleanly and doesn't howl afterward (needs a dealer trip to fix)

j)If it has aftermarket body kit then demand a huge discount, NOBODY wants a secondhand car that isn't standard! Mr. Green Of course if you are looking at an HST then it should have a bigger front valance and rear
bumper with square differently shaped exhausts on each side and body coloured door spoilers and the rear spoiler is a different design

k) If it has privacy "glass" you can tell if it is aftermarket or factory fitted by looking at the aerial wires on the rear quarter windows - factory fitted privacy the elements are on top of the tint, aftermarket film is stuck over the top of the aerials and often there is a tiny air gap where the film isn't stuck to the glass.

l)HSE models often have a refrigerated centre cubby box - run the engine and check the light on the switch comes on to show it is cooling down

m) If the car has PTi fitted try to pair your phone with it and make a call - not all cars have PTi but some have a partial LR accessory BT system.

n)There isn't much to see under the bonnet but if the car is to European spec it should have a fuel burning heater to help speed up the warming up on cold days - it's a silvery box in the front right side of the engine space. Some very early cars left the production line without this! Whistle

0) Have a look at the fluid levels (indication of how well the current owner looks after the car - but expect the engine oil to be black as night!

p) If the car has Dynamic Response then check there are no rattles from the suspension and that the system operates silently (no hissing hydraulics)

r) Look at the tyres - RRS's are known to wear tyres quickly if there is a steering geometry/ tyre balance problem. Shoulders wear quickly. Check any new tyres are the right rating for the car.

s) Get under the back of the car and check there is a spare wheel - might be a space saver but some cars have a full size spare. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
