England 2006 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Zambezi Silver
Dealer Name & Shame Brock Garstang uk ( must be read )HE

problem 1 :

rrs 2006 43000mls

this car has been in 7 times for same fault, the amazing drive line shunt, first reported under warranty, dealer had for 2 days after i went out with the service manager it did the drive line shunt ( thuding on acceleration and a gentle nudge when you stop feels like some one hits you very gently about 3 times.
he admitted it and said we will look further ( picked car up 2 days later guess what still doing it the response was we dont know what to do about it. grrrr
its been in under warranty a further 6 times since for other issues which i must say they did fix, i recently contacted them for price for a service and also mentioned the drive line shunt which is driving me mad, also rear passenger and front passenger tyres completly bald for the 3rd time they asked me to bring it in for 2 days and they will sort it.
so i did, 2 days later i had the call and they said everything was ok and done and ready for collection. i got there and they had serviced the car ( i did not authorise this just wanted a price ) was then given a bill of 604 pounds for a service and 4 wheel alignment and was told to replace my tyres errrr there fault, i replied have you fixed all the faults the answer was what faults, mmm.
i asked why was my car serviced when i only asked for price the answer was errr dont know, i replied the car was not due for a service until another 3 thousand miles ( confused )look on there face.
also on the vehicle inspection report they reported 60% wear on rear pads and disks, this was strange i had them done at another garage 2 weeks before i took it in, when challanged they said mmm maybe we have wrote it on the wrong report, mmm.
anyway i paid like a idiot and drove of only to have guess what a drive line shunt, very angry by now and went back in, engineer got in and drove my care and immediately said its your transfer box, ok i said this has been report from day one and should be under warranty even though its ran out.
i reported tos ervice manager and response is sorry out of warranty its about £2000 plus fitting, guess what, i was very angry.
anyway i could go on but it gets worse sorry to harp on but what would you guys do.
o the other thing sir would you like to trade it in..........

Shocked you paid ......... for work you didn't want Rolling Eyes Confused

I'd dig my heels in and get either a visit in with the Svc Mgr or letter on both issues of the work done - although your position is weakened having paid, then the issue of warranty work outstanding.....

Wozzer,

sounds like you unfortunately have a couple of issues which could be resolved in different ways. I have experienced very similiar and got nowhere with the Dealership, until I went to their Head Office and Land Rover.

The unauthorised work - service.
Inaccuracies on the inspection report. Brakes

For these two issues I would contact the Dealer Principal, don't bother with the Service Manager, in my experience he would go straight on the defensive.
Explain to the Dealer Principal, that this level of service is not acceptable for a premium marque, and that you will be contacting Land Rover (not customer services) regarding the standard of the inspection if you do not get a satisfactory resolution. Service Depts are audited annually to attain their Authorised status.
If they have made errors it's not good enough and LR should know about it.
If they have deliberately put inaccurate info to induce further work down the line, that's more serious.
If they haven't bothered to check the brake wear, what else haven't they checked/changed during the service that they have charged you for?
If you're not happy with the DP's repsonse contact the Dealers Head Office if they have one. They are usually keen to know what's happening on the ground.

I had a Dealer HO Director, Dealer Principal, Service Manager all in the same discussion to agree how they could prove to me that my car was correctly serviced at PDI, i.e. certain parts that would have been changed/had been upgraded since build etc.

Transfer Box.
Deal with the DP at the same time, explain the situation and how many times it's been in unresolved. Do you have dates of these visits and any documentation?
Did you buy from a LR Authorised Dealer and get serviced by the same? LR will contibute more to outside warranty work if you have used the LR network.
Contact LRCS and explain the same.
Dependent on response go higher at LR, I chose Anthony Bradbury Marketing Director to highlight what the Dealers are doing.

It may sound a little over the top, but this approach worked for me. Whether or not LR HO and Dealer HO really care or not I don't know, but my phone started ringing almost immediately from formerly unhelpful people now wanting to sort things out.
At least people are getting Censored and having to explain to their boss and his boss why they have received complaint letter/call.

And after receiving a reply from Anthony Bradbury, I also received an invite to LRE - coincedence???
My issues were resolved satisfactorily, all be it took a while. The dealership and LR apologised, and offered variosus goodwill gestures. And I still use the Dealership they now provide me with good service.

Good Luck Thumbs Up

Agree with iSlider too - I'd just be prepared to be a little bit flexible as you have now already paid, which goes some way to accepting the work that has been done imho. Good luck Thumbs Up

Wozzer,

one thing to add on the warranty work, if you have any documentary evidence of the visits to rectify the driveline shunt, and it stating they investigated it etc, this would make your argument for the whole cost to be covered by LR even thougth it is out of warranty, as it was a pre-existing fault left unrectified.
If you had the investigations work during warranty done whilst any servicing or other work done, this should have been noted on the invoice.
If you don't have anything supporting this and the Dealers are not supportive, you may have to settle for a contribution to the cost of the the transfer box from LR.
In this case, you could use the poor standard of service work and unauthorised work as a stick to beat them with to make up the difference.

The shunt was a problem I had on my old RRS and I was always given the excuse that it was a characteristic of the car! Evil or Very Mad Laughing 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

VA this is where it gets interesting, LR blamed so many things as characteristics when they could have been faults.
I think we'll see a lot of characteristic related parts going pop, after factory warranty expires. If the car has changed ownership since the warranty expiry date LR will get away with it.
But for owners who keep it after the factory warranty expires, and then get problems, could be some interesting conversations in Service depts. Whistle

So a knackered - 'Insert appropriate part name' is a characteristic then? Rolling with laughter
