Poor dealership preparation

I recently collected my 57 plate black Range Rover Sport from a main dealer. I arrived at 2.45pm and the car was not ready so we proceeded with the handover and dealt with the paperwork. At around 5pm, the car was finally delivered to the front, the weather was slightly overcast and some light spots of rain so I had a quick glance around the car/alloys and I couldn't see anything wrong with the car at first glance.

The next day the sun was out and to my horror I noticed quite a few surface scratches on the bonnet. Now, don't get me wrong it's a 2yr old car so I expect some swirls but these were proper scratches like the car was cleaned with a sponge which had some grit in there. I contacted a professional valeter who said it could be machine polished out but the cost is nearly £450 for the whole car.

I've sent pictures to the dealer and will be discussing this with him as I want this repaired. Given I've reported this the very next day, I'm hoping the dealer will agree to pay for the cost of repair but my concern is them saying tough luck. I'd like to think they'd be reasonable but has anyone else been in a similar situation before and what did you do?

Normally I would drive and speak to them face to face but the dealership I bought it from is nearly 200 miles away.

Cheers

i bought my old bmw x5 from fawdington bmw newcastle without test driving it! i got it it was pulling all over the road tyres were low and tracking was a mile out, i had steamed up headlights and the boot was rotten inside some pixels were dead on the dash, i complained the same day, got a brand new 3 series for 2 days they fixed all the faults

i had the bmw approved warranty and proceeded with a total of 12k worth of claims in the first year some of the stuff was not even really a warranty problem but they fixed anyway (like blue dye on leather from jeans and stained carpets, rear bushes, tyres full tank of fuel twice!!!!!! ha ha ha had the car 2 and a half years in the next 1.5 years all i spent was one service and the car was mint the whole time the only serious problem i had was the gearbox failing what was replaced aswell.

so if land rover dealers are l;ike bmw you will get all you ask for and more as long as you behave like a thorn in there sides ha ha

so fear not your hard earned will be fine sitting in your new pride and joy just a bit of a pain being 200 miles away, lets just hope you never bought it from strastone newcastle as the service dept is hopless where the parts dept are top class!!!! "ha ha HA HA" laughing all the way to the bank!

Maybe worth the drive unless you can get them to have a local dealer address issues and chargeback. I always accept any purchase on a received but not inspected basis.... when spending 20,30,40K i'd be doing more than a quick lookaround also... they ought to look after you

Any issues you highlighted prior to purchase and how were they attended to ?

I agree, looking back I should have been more attentive, but I've never bought a black car and in overcast conditions it's not so obvious to see but it's really highlighted in the sun.

All my requests with were dealt with prior to purchase, the dealership were good like that. I'll wait and see tomorrow.

Cheers

Thought I'd update, the LR dealership I bought the car from has arranged for my car to have the scratches removed and whole bodywork machine polished at a dealer local to me at their cost. They'll also supply a loan car as well for the duration of the car being repaired. Whilst they were slow to organise, they've kept their word.

Best advice I was given was to keep the communication lines 'friendly' without launching any 'missiles'. Bow down Gone: RRS : HSE : TDv6 : 57 : Java Black : Ebony : 20"
