I heard somebody talking about "age adjusting" of exam marks from the days when you passed your A levels, I took mine 33 years ago - I reckon that now with age adjusting my D passes would probably be worth at least a 1st Class degree with Honours................................. Whistle
I never went to Uni, I went to a Nautical College, gained an ONC in Nautical Science (???) and then did my professional exams. I don't have a degree and in today's world if I were just leaving school I would probably be unemployable................... yet I have have reached the top of my profession.

When I sat mine 26 years ago a D was a fail!! End of. C was te lowest grade you could get. Believe it or not, my son has just entered second year here and when he took home his report for last year it was full off Ds and Es!! NAturally I was heading for the deep end at him till it was explained that an F is now the highest mark you can get!!! Why do they have to keep interfering in stuff??? You get an A now and its a complete fail!! Weird weird weird!!! Big Cry Current, M135i in Estoril Blue with more extras than the cast of Ben Hur.

United Kingdom 2005 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Zermatt Silver

Its been 16 years since I did my G.C.S.E's and there has certainly been a difference in standards since then. I heard on the radio the other day that one of the DJ's had completed a G.C.S.E maths paper and managed to score 46% apparantly this is now classed as a B ! No wonder pass rates are up - in my day (oh how old do I sound now) you would need at least 70% to be classed as a B especially in a core subject such as maths or english. Unfortunately I think that there is so much pressure these days on teachers to acheive these higher pass rates that rather then teach the subject than some teachers just teach the pupils how to pass the exams rather than explaining the interaction with what they are learning and the real world situations they will experience.

As an employer I would always be more intrested in the grades a potentional employee had got in maths, english and science rather than how many A* they got in drama, child care or PE !!

Thats just my 2p's worth. 2005 TDV6 HSE Zermatt Silver Ebony Interior Sunroof, RSE, Side Steps
2002 Honda CBR600F4i plenty fast enough thank you !

If I were to employ someone it wouldn't just be on their GSCE results, I would take into account the grades but set my own test to see if any future employee had common sense - there's no GCSE for that yet! 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten
2009 Alaska TDV8 - Gone and much missed.

Has he explained to you that when you enter your third year of secondary school education a 1 is the highest grade you can get, and a 7 is a fail, and if you do intermediate 1's/2's or higher's and advanced higher's then A is the highest, D is not a fail, but is means you passed the course but not the exams... F is a fail! Rolling Eyes Maverick off disco3!
