England 2009 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Arctic Frost

morning chaps,i'm just in the process of getting some chrome door handles or the covers i'm just wondering about these clips that break on removal & is it a ling job fitting them.
i'd prefer to put complete handles on instead of the stick on covers has anyone fitted the covers.? if so how secure are the..?

andy.

I dont think you can get chrome handles, only covers.

If you are changing the handles they dont worry about breaking the clips since the new ones simply clip in place. Be wary of the retaining springs on the front door handles since they are more of an issue if they fall into the door surround (like mine did).

As for the covers, I'm sure they work great if you use the correct glue.

Re-read my first line mate......I have seen the covers in all colours including carbon fibre.
I certainly think the covers are the way to go if you need a chrome finish.

I wanted black so decided to change the whole handles, much more hassle but a nicer end result!

Don't know if I am mising something here but I just fitted a new set of handles

and although the clips on the old one did get a bit broken that was it, I didn't even see any springs??

These were the instructions the seller sent me, thought they might be of use

Looking at figure 3 they are simply covers that glue onto the handle body.
The springs are only an issue when you remove the handle body on the front doors.

Hope this helps

I would say it can be done in less than an hour, once you resign yourself to the fact that you will damage the clips on the old bits you can simply adopt the bull in a china shop approach and just get on with it....lol!

Just remember that the torx screw on the lock mecinism (front passenger door) is only like a grub screw, turn it a few times a turn at a time and see if the lock will slide out before turning a further time and then you wont loose the screw, sounds complicated but obvious once you have done it. You access the head of the torx screw by removing a rubber gromet, visible when you open the door!!!

Hope this helps

They don't glue on at all. They were original LR items that had been colour coded and clip into place the same way as the original ones. I dont see why it would be necessary to remove the whole handle mechanisim if you want colour coded ones. TDV8 now with extra grin factor thanks to Alive Tunning: Gone but not forgotten

Yes mate the clips are part of the plastic piece (see figure 4) and they always break when you remove this piece, no big deal since you are replacing this bit of plastic anyway!

Im going to do this as soon as the weather picks up, i wasnt aware that there are springs in the front doors?. I have complete 1 piece handles to replace and was advised of this procedure, is anything missing :-

Removal
1. Remove cap (not bothered if they break as have new ones)
2. Pull the handle outwards then slide it back towards the rear whilst held in the open position. The handle will disengage and can be removed along with the seals.

Fitting.
1. Push in the rear of the main handle
2. Angle the front of the handle towards the front of the car and slot in
3. Slide the handle forwards to lock in place
4. Fit the cap

The only deviation was the passenger side front door which needs the key to remove the cap.

Will using this procedure work fine or is a step / tip missing?

Thanks

Carl
