Does anyone have any experience or recommendations on how best to transfer some old Audio Cassettes to digital (i.e. so I can get them into the Iphone/ipod) and VHS to a suitable digital format or DVD/BlueRay.. Or should I just take them to a professional. With the latter, if possible I was hoping in the transfer they could be a bit of 'cleaning' refining of the orginial if possible...

These are personal recordings so I cannot just go a buy a newer medium from the shops.

Any advice appreciated

Audio Cassettes - I just use the line out on my old tape deck, into a Soundblaster card on the PC and convert to MP3 and then burn to disk.

For VHS, I use Pinncle Studio 12, VHS player via a device like the DAzzle Video Creator that allows audio/video connection from vhs player, the Pinnacle Studio then captures the source and gives you a who host of formats to convert to, also allows some editing/clean up functionality.
