Popped into a local dealer at the weekend to have a look at Bali Blue in the flesh, so to speak. Was quite taken, but then spotted the white one, and well, I have to say it looked fantastic.

Anyway, I digress. Speaking to the sales chap, about options etc, I asked about the rear split seats. I would ideally like a 3-way split, with the centre able to drop, leaving two useful seats - snowboarding trip to France in January planned. The two in the showroom did not allow this (1/3 + 2/3 split), so he said he would need to ask someone.

Anyone on here got any ideas?

All stems from the other question about heights I asked previously - the resort I am going to has underground parking, and it would be too close to call with anything roof based.

As an aside, he said they should be getting their 5.0L s/c within a week, so I cannot wait for the testdrive.

I don't know, but I expect it will be a 2/1 split - maybe you'll be able to spec a "through load" option like you can in the BMW world. If James from CHPR is watching he may well know?

Ta Schmoogle. Certainly looks like a load through option may have been planned - we flipped down the centre rear armrest, and there is a very thin panel left between the bootspace and the rear seats. Having said that, this seemed very similar to the one in the current model, and I've not seen this as an option listed anywhere.

Load through may be a touch slender for a snowboard though - would much prefer a fully fold down centre rear - leaving space for two adults to sit in comfort either side on a trip to France. Can't imagine it would be much fun sitting on the centre bit all that way, and using the 1/3 split folded down.

James, if you are reading, can you shed any light.....?

... of course, the other option may be to load the snowboards (in board bags) high, above the flattened centre headrest - which will obviously need a solution to stop them shunting forward between the front seats under breaking....

You could buy a Discovery 3 or 4...

or a set of roof bars and a roofbox - that would keep the inside of the car dry too and there is no problem with flying things under heavy braking! Tim, have looked into the roofbox options - and will probably get one anyway for every other occasion, but it doesn't solve the immediate query. The resort has underground parking, that pretty much (by the look of the map I've been sent) covers the "hamlet" (Belle Plagne, if anyone's been). The entry to this is at the start of the town, and there doesn't appear to be road access to the apartments and chalets - other than going underground.

If a roofbox is the only way, then I will need to find one long enough to hold the board bags etc, but short enough to fit inside the car when I arrive, as I will need to take it off to get the car into the carpark - and I don't fancy the thought of lugging the box all the way through the carpark!

Keeping the car dry is not a worry, as the boards will not be in it other than travelling and will be inside board bags also.

Anyone got inside info to say whether it is a factory option for the centre split?

I do seem to remember that the split rear seats are an option because I've got a vague recollection of thinking it was an odd thing to do (to make it an option).... if nobody else can confirm today, I'll do so tomorrow - otherwise maybe a quick call to James or one of his chaps would give you the answer

No through-load facility at this stage unfortunately. I remember commenting on the hight with a roof box. If you have a tow bar then I have seen boxes that go on the rear, but have no idea how good they are of if wide enough for circa 2m long ski's.

Or rent the skis when you get there?..........................

OK, can anyone recommend a decent roof box, with internal carrying length 1.6m or above, that will fit into the back of the car for storage after arrival.....?

Also - James, do you know whether the roof rails/bars will fit from the old to the new? If I buy them now for the HST will I be able to use them on the 2010MY?

I think the RRS is the only car in it's class not offering load through as an option I would certainly go for it if I had the chance, very often miss one.

I'm certain the roof bars from previous model wil fit 2010, I plan to move mine over. 2010 RRS TDV6 3,0, Bali Blue/Tan/Anigre/Dynamic Pack/Logic7/Keyless entry/Paddle

I'm 99.9% sure they'll transfer.... can't see any reason why not.

James - thanks. Will look into the roof rails/bars now. Quick question - is it a simple and quick task to remove the bars, and hence reduce height on my arrival at the resort?

MAW - 4 adults travelling - drive to Dover (or thereabouts) from Leeds, and then down through France to La Plagne. At a guess, 5 hours this side, and about 8 hours the other - more than likely with a stopover somewhere around Dijon. A tad too far to expect 2 people to sit comfortably on the side and centre rears.

ASH555 - Dealer with the White and Bali was Farnell - Central Leeds. Chap I spoke to there was called Shane Manifield. Farnell have an open "day" this weekend for the launch of 2010MY. I am guessing that they will also have a few other colours on display for this - there are 3 dealers in the group - Guiseley and Bradford also. Might be worth a call to see what they will have on display at each of the sites.

ErSa - with you on that one - it does seem to be a missed opportunity. Can't quite understand why load through has not been incorporated.
