Oil Usage on RRS TDV8 HSE

another question guys,

how are the TDV8 users out there finding oil usage?? Both the manual and filler cap says check every 500 mile (which I have) plus I've had one major service with another one due in about a month.

Everyone warned me that I'd need to top up the oil (this was my first RRS and my first diesel) but despite the purchase on some lovely (and expensive) Castrol Magnatec, it's sat unpoened and unused on my garage shelf as the oil level doesn't seem to change.

Am I missing something or do these engines not use oil as per other diesels?

Thanks, Colin

Mine has used no oil between annual services - I don't do intermediate (unscheduled changes) between services either. The car gets maintained in accordance with the service indicator and went 13000 miles in the first year with only a 1/2litre top-up a couple of months after delivery which was expected as the high carbon content block absorbs oil until the car is "run in", so far I have done 7000 miles this year on the same oil, 2nd service is due in October and miles will be about 21000. I too have a 5ltr cask of best Magnatec sitting un-opened in the garage and that was from my 1st RRS and bought 5 years ago! I also have 2 "top-up" packs donated by dealers after services!

FWIW my TDi300 powered Defender which does about 3000 miles a year also never leaks or burns any oil. The only Land Rover I have owned that used oil was a V8i ES Disco1, it didn't leak any and it also had unscheduled oil changes every 6000miles as the 4.0ltr V8 had a sludging up problem and the only way to avoid it was frequent oil changes. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

No oil used by mine either, despite many long and fast runs!

I was actually so concerned that i asked the dealer to check the level to make sure i was not getting it wrong...

Sofar at 38k kilometers - no oil required! MY12 Black HSE SDV6

I think the warnings are because in the 1st 500 miles after delivery a new TDV8 SHOULD consume oil as the block absorbs it. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
