2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Stornoway Grey

I replaced my Def90's winch rope today after breaking the purple Plasma rope at the weekend....................... don't ask but it involved a 90 full of hubby/wifey and lots of kids, up to above the wheel arches in deep mud! Anyway the importer of Plasma ropes is not far away from here so I called in and got me a lovely 9.5mm dia G4 Tangiers Orange Plasma winch rope and matching hook as originally fitted to the G4 cars but removed from them by LR before they sold the cars to the public. Was shown how to splice Plasma rope and now have a new winch rope in Orange and a 25mx 9.5mm dia purple Plasma extension! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
2018 Melting Silver Mini Countryman PHEV - soon to be replaced
2015MY Corris Grey SDv6 HSE Dynamic, the best car I have ever owned, totally reliable only a cou0le of rattles in 3 years, now no longer in my care
Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW

Errrrrrr I'll have to make up a spike and a fid first, but instructions are here on the UK importers website
http://www.ruftraks.co.uk/quick_splicing.htm
Don't use steel implements if you can avoid them as they have tiny "snags" and roughness that can catch on the strands of the rope and weaken it. Brass or wooden spikes/fids are far superior for this job even though Andy shows a steel spike in use in the instructions. Today when he spliced my broken rope onto the new hook he used a brass spike and the one with the hole in it shown in the photos.
I was impressed when my rope parted, it just fell to the ground, even less whiplash than when we have a mooring rope on the ship (similar ropes but 80mm dia and 600 tonnes breaking load!) parts.

Here is my new winch rope
