1. can I take it to any garage, as long as official parts are used/procedure is followed?
2. what should I expect to pay, pre any 'discoveries'
3. where can I get the 'work sheet' that details what work needs to be done, in case I want to take it elsewhere?
4. is it an 'A', 'B' or 'C' service, the service record book isn't clear

1. No reason why not, but presumably it's still in warranty so at least try and find someone that's got experience of working with RRSs - a LR indie.

2. From an indie service including parts should be between £250-300.

3. Unless someone from here can provide, I'm not sure you'll get one. Another reason to use an LR indie.

4. the 24k service is a B service, I believe.

I have a copy of the service worksheet, it's generic and covers both A & B services and set mileage jobs. So should have everything you need on it.
Not sure how to upload files here, (Technophobe) if you could advise how to would be happy to post up. If this sort of doc is ok to share otherwise PM me and can mail it to you.

Islider you have two ways to do this

first scan the document and save it to your computer as a jpeg or doc
then followthe instructions on this link http://www.rrsport.co.uk/forum/topic30.html

if you have a problem because of the file size of the copied document then copy the document to an online photo store like photobucket (its free, you don't need a subscription), then copy the imgage link (copy and paste type copy!) re-open RRSport.co.uk and insert the copied link into the posting and submit it! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

If i only do 6k a year is it still an annual service every 12 and 24 months?

Fraid so, every 12 months or 15k miles, whichever ocurrs first.

Actually you get a small spanner icon indicating a service is due in the LCD display with a number that counts down daily from 30........................ and that is your notice to have it serviced - it isn't fixed at 15,000miles/ 12 months. If you don't use the car that much you may get more than 12months between services, high miles/town driving/ race track use and you will get the service indicator coming up sooner than the 12 months/15000 miles 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

is that how it works. Mine came on precisely eleven months after the last service giving me the 30 day countdown. After only 6k miles, maybe I had been a bit too eager with the right foot.

I thought the spanner worked on the default of the date set at the last service interval indicator reset, if the mileage hasn't been met.

Would love it to be setup according to the level of abuse it's had. Like a previous BMW I had, I had to get them to check the service indicator because it wouldn't indicate a service for nearly 18 months.

Fingers crossed for this year then.

I prefer your logic, and hope you're right.

But through experience, I wouldn't trust service indicators completely. They're only as good as the human resetting them after all.

The Mrs picked up a 6month old Approved CLK last year, had it a month and the service indicator came on.

Shouldn't have needed it's first service for another 5mths.

She took it in to the Stealer and they were happy to service it, until she pointed out that under their approved programme the car wouldn't need servicing for 3 months or 3k miles (or something like that), and that they would be paying for it.

Not surprisingly they then did some checking, and it turned out it had been unregistered for 5mths after build and the service indicator hadn't been reset at the PDI. Hence coming up on a 7 month old car.(12 mths after build)

Offer of 30% off next service for the inconvenience, just goes to show all marques are the same when it comes to customer service.

Tim, reading the manual, and the linked to pdf, i dont think you are right either - at 12 months and 24 months you must have a service regardless of mileage... happy to be proven wrong

What the book says is every 12 months OR every 15000 miles whichever comes first, I think you will find! The service indicator only counts down time from the last service, it doesn't go on how you use the car (that would be too far advanced for LR!) like I mistakenly said earlier 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
