Good quality 2-stroke oil will reduce the amount of ash/carbon deposits produced. Since the turbo is driven by exhaust gases, the cleaner they are, the better it is for the turbo. It also helps prevent problems with the EGR valves and lubricates the top end. Thumbs Up

I'm on the verge of being convinced Confused And can see some real benefits if you have the DPF, but I've not got one....phew Whistle

But I'm assuming you all read this American research (link above taken from the FL2 thread).

2 stroke oil came 7th out of 19 for improving the sheer factor of the metal. And on basis of cost is a good deal compared to numbers 1 and 2.

But what still concerns me a little is the comment in the result of the 2 stroke "Not USLD compliant, may damage 2007 or newer systems".

Any thoughts or am I just being over cautious Question TDV6 - gone

Hello

I drive the TDV8 and have done so since last November.
In the following 8 Months I have driven 35000 Kilometers (22000 miles)
I have had to clear the DPF 3 times
Most of my travel is at high speed on motorways between Luxembourg, Brussels, Lausanne, Amsterdam, Southend on Sea and Leicester.

I average 13l/100km

I will add the 2T oil at next fill up and update you.

I cannot see any reason why not.

Best MY12 Black HSE SDV6

Hi All,
WOW, what a difference. I used valvoline racing two stroke oil (rating TC and low ash) and while initially skeptical I am now convinced. Surely something that makes the engine run so well can't be bad for it? Much less smoke, easier starting, quieter and smoother power delivery. Will have to wait and see about economy. The smell of the exhaust when cold is reduced as well. I normally put my car in neutral at idle, not just for economy but also because the vibration from the diesel engine annoys me. This noise/vibration is all but gone! It really feels like a smooth petrol v6 now.

seems to be working

just used two tanks of diesel with 2T oil in it

I agree, the engine is less noisey around town - less smoke

economy has gone from 13l/100km to 12.7 but all the driving was at motoway speeds and above between brussel and Luxembourg on the E411 (hilly) so will reserve judgement on economy

the car is definately smoother though


will update again in a few weeks MY12 Black HSE SDV6

two weeks and about 2500km later and all i see is a slightly smoother running car. cannot detect a power benefit and now i have done some distance around town the economy is back where it was.

not convinced! MY12 Black HSE SDV6

2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Stornoway Grey

Well I have been running two very unscientific experiments with my 2 cars in the last month................ And I have to say that I have been disappointed that running 3 tanks of Vpower diesel through the RRS, the fuel consumption has increased, so I'll be returning to standard fuel at the next fill up.
In my Defender 2.5TDi 300 I have added 2 shots of Millers Diesel additive Injector cleaner and Cetane enhancer to each empty to full refill of 50 litres. Fuel consumption has reduced by 34% - yes I am now getting 134 miles out of a half tank of tractor juice when on plain ordinary un-Millared Shell/BP/Jet diesel I was getting 100miles, but also my 90 is running more quietly and smoothly and can now exceed 70mph with ease with no black smoke out of the tail pipe! A much better return on my small investment in Millars than my somewhat larger 8pence a litre excess over ordinary diesel prices paid to Shell for 250 litres of V power that has been added to my TDv8's tank in the last month. I have stopped using "supermarket" diesel completely as even ordinary Shell was giving better consumption than Sainsbury/Tesco's tractor juice. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Leo I haven't tried it in my TDv8, only in the 14 year old TDi300 engined Def90. But I'm sure that adding it to the TDv8 wouldn't do it any harm - maybe I should try it though - even if I only get 3-4% better thats better than the motor burning more diesel when running on the expensive superduper stuff!! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

this is no different than adding fuel additives which my lr dealer did for me to offset pumpwear and injector problems after i misfueled im going to do it ,im sure it s ok

As an update for the last 3000km i did not add any 2t oil and to by surprise fuel consumption dropped by about 5%

What am i doing wrong? MY12 Black HSE SDV6

This treatment didn't have any effect either way on fuel economy for me. It is more about smoothing out the engine, keeping parts lubricated and much less smoke I believe. TDV6, MYO7 Java with Ivory leather, 19 inch wheels

Agreed, the car does run better with the oil, but what was interesting was that on a very long and fast run from Milan back to Lux, I noticed a fuel economy improvement using standard and not Vpower diesel. A bit wierd and may be co-incidental.

I never really had much smoke from the outset, so I really don't see an improvement there either.

Maybe i'l stick some Mazola in. Idea Cool MY12 Black HSE SDV6
