Thats news to me.When i bought the car from stratstone in pickering they supplied it with dunlops on the front and the original contis on the back. the front tires were unevenly worn when i went to view the car, so they said that they would replace them, i asked for contis but they said that the dunlops were a better tyre. With them being a main dealer i went with it. I have to say its the first time ive heard of different tread patterns on the front and rear, causing damage to a car. Could u elaborate tim. thanks.

What I have been told is that running a hitech 4x4 with different tread patterns between axles causes the 4x4 system to operate continuously to overcome the different frictions between the axles, causing wear to transmission. At one stage with the Volvo XCountry and XC's if you got a puncture in one tyre your were advised to replace all 4 running tyres because of the differing amount of wear on the tyres!

My tyre bloke always used to say it was more important to keep the tyres identical across axles rather than front or back.... but the drivetrain wear explanation is always one that is banded about. That said, can't say I've ever heard of a 4x4 going bang because of this. Conversely, I wouldn't want to be the first to try

I know nothing about the Toyos but the Hankooks are brilliant! Better than the Pirelli summer tyres in that size!

youve got me worried now tim. Does anyone know what landrover say on this matter. Is it in the manual. Seeing as stratstone supplied me the car with different tyres on the front and back, do you think i could take it up with them. If as you say, my current configuration, or even my previous configuration of tyres is causing detrimental damage to the transmission of the vehicle, i could ask stratstone to remedy this matter for me. Like i say this is the first time i have heard of anything like this. Have you heard of anyone causing damage to their vehicle because of this.

I thought only the freelander has a VC and the RRS was permanent 4WD mode. If this is the case then having different tires front and back still detrimental to the transmission?
