Brake Failure - Any Ideas!

RRS 06 HSE
Yesterday I experience a scary situation whiles travelling down a country lane towards a t junction, as I approached with no one in front of me I applied the brakes several times gently as I neared and then applied them firmly as I reached the end of the road, it was at this point that I seamed to loose the full capacity of the brakes and the pedal went hard. On releasing the brakes all was fine again, however if I gently pump the brakes before applying them hard it causes the same effect. Check all fluids and they are fine, pads and discs are all within limits. Not Brembo.

Me neither, but presuming you still have LRA get them out straight away - that could've been you in the back of another car or worse into a child crossing the road in front of you and you would have been powerless to stop it Shocked

Don't forget that you still have your EPB which will halt you very quickly, with ABS, if you pull up on the switch and keep pulling up. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

It works at all speeds. I was at LRE Snowdonia on Saturday and we talked about this very thing. The instructor had been in a RRS and applied the EPB under race track conditions at a speed in excess of 100 mph and the vehicle stopped better and quicker than using the footbrake. He also said you only get about 2 goes with the EPB before you need to change pads.

I was on an LRE once where they demo'd this too - he described it as the opposite of launch control Wink

Sounds like you’re exhausting the vacuum in the brake servo. I'm no expert but worth reading through the post on the D3 site:

So long as it works on the one time you REALLY want it to then I'm happy to know it's there and yes it works from all speeds and since I played with it on my Tdv6 and was very pleased it worked I haven't needed it on the TDv8 yet! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

I used the electronic park brake, for real, in a very similar situation to this.

It does not stop the car very quickly at all. In fact, very slowly.

This is becoming a serious matter.

See this post:

So very serious in fact, , that I have heard diddly squat from LR about this Whistle , even after mentioning diminishing brakes, and after having a so called 'health check' on my vehicle . Appalling Evil or Very Mad they just do not give a damn about anyones lives at risk here, and almost as bad, they seem to not have a clue as to what to do about it, or even the VIN no's of affected vehicles.W Censored RS. RRS TDV8 Buck Blue (no, not now in my dreams). ..........D3 TDclankety clankV6 ............BMW 318i

Some service depts will need to be made aware of this by their customers evidently, which isn't entirely surprising. The world of customer service in the UK simply doesn't work how you'd want it to.... Sad

There are a few members who have resorted to printing out entire threads from RRSport.co.uk and even TSB's that Bobby has told us about and taken the printouts along to their friendly service manager to convince them that there IS a Land Rover fix for a problem........................... FBH's come to mind as one topic. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
