Wheel cleaning and brake dust removal.

Hello all,

I bought some WonderWheels from Halfords after chatting with a friend, and it seems to do the job wonderfully, BUT, it also removed a layer of skin from my hands!!! Embarassed

I'm just wondering what everyone else uses/recommends?? (no 'get a lad in' jokes please) Laughing

I do clean the car myself so i'm interested in your thoughs

Thumbs Up I keep telling myself 'It's a toy'
But I've broken quite a lot of toys in my time.....

I've used wonderwheels for the last 3 years or so..been great on Audi and RRS wheels.............not sure how you managed to remove your skin with it Confused Confused

You're supposed to apply using a brush Whistle Whistle

BTW, it works best when the wheels are cold and if you cover them in water before applying. Current: I can't say...Oh the Shame!

Wonderwheels is almost neat Sulphuric or Hydrochloric Acid ............................. bet you didn't read the H&S instructions on the packet. They used to supply rubber gloves and a paint brush with each pack for your safety, have they stopped doing that? 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

mmmmm good advice BUT,

After I read the back of the spray-on bottle I had bought, I followed the instructions to the letter.

No gloves supplied, althought i did spray on and use the brush to rub in.

I think i'll be watering it down for future use!

(or maybe get a small child to apply it for me Thumbs Up ) I keep telling myself 'It's a toy'

didn't know they did a spray on version............ Confused

Only used the liquid in a bottle version. I wouldn't spray if it's breezy, I'm sure the paintwork wouldn't appreciate it. Shocked Shocked

@Tim, the last 2 bottles I've purchased came with brush but not gloves. Current: I can't say...Oh the Shame!

I'm sure Bilberry's acid free stuff is kinder to your wheels and hands. You can get it in 5 litre bottles and probably works out a lot cheaper than Wonderwheels. Get it on Ebay.

Years ago I made the mistake of using Wonderwheels when the wheels weren't stone cold.......ruined the wheels.

I would also recommend using a good wheel polish from someone like Chemical Boys to stop the brake dust sticking. TDV6 - gone
TDV8 - gone

I agree with Jay - I have used the Muc-Off bike cleaner to clean my bike and the car wheels for years, until they brought out the range of specialised car cleaning products and I started to buy them for the car.
Muc-Off is gentle and comes in a triggerpack - if you cannot find it on the car cleaning shelves then try the bicycle maintenance section of any Halfrauds - it's a pink coloured cleaner in a clear 1 or 1.5ltr triggerpack
It is popular with bikers - motorbikes and mountain bikes! http://www.muc-off.com/auto/products/auto_muc_off.html 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

If your near an Autosmart rep in your area, they do good deals on smart wheels for cash in hand.

Wheel cleaner is something I no longer carry for sale after an incident with the post office and sending hazardous good >5ltrs Whistle Embarassed

Just remember to put some protection on the wheels once you clean them, making it easier to clean the next half dozen times. I stock Poorboys wheels sealant. Thumbs Up Need detailing or cleaning products, drop me a pm for forum discount prices.

If you dont want to clean it yourself, give me a shout for a quote on your detailing requirements. From a simple valet to machine polishing to remove bramble rash and swirl marks.
