Rotating the tires

Has anyone rotated the tires yet? I have 10,000 miles on and I haven't heard if we need to and when. Any thoughts? RRS S/C Special Edition, Vesuvius

2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Stornoway Grey

My understanding of full time 4 wheel drive cars is that wheel rotation is not necessary. In 10 years of owning various Land Rovers I have never rotated my tyres. I cannot find anything in the UK version of the owners manual about it either. I assume that either the dealer does it as part of a service ( Laughing ) or it isn't necessary. I have run tyres up to 74000 miles with out a rotation on a V8 Discovery1 and even then I only changed the tyres because at 3mm they were definately passed their best in the snow! Since then I have run my Defender up to 57000 miles on the original BFG All Terrains tyres which still had 6mm average tread depth on them (they started with 15mm) when I sold them on to somebody else who didn't take their Defender offroading.
I think you will find rotating the wheels is not necessary on the RRS 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Does anyone know how much tread depth new tyres come with in general?

Last time I measured mine they were all at about 6mm. L319 D4 HSE

The Grizzly Claw MTRs on my Defender have 20mm on their tractor type threads, certainly don't have anywhere near that on the Sport or on the BFG ATs that I normally run the Defender on! Depends which tyre make you have I think RR 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

On standard road tyres, "new" tread depth is normally 10mm.

Tyres are rotated at the service for a D3 and Freelanders, I can't imagine bling machines would be any different Wink

you can always check the depth youself and if the back are lower than the fronts or vise versa you can swop them about i do

Nuts

Having had to gas axe 11 nuts off the alloys on my P38, I would strongly recommend either rotating tyres or at least loosening your nuts every 4 months or so, (gives them room to breathe)!
These long service intervals may be too far apart to prevent them seizing up.

Replacement nuts cost over 48 squid with "discount" ! RRSprt HSE TDV6 - Artic Frost, Tow pack, Privacy glass.

Greetings,

Had my tires rotated at 7500 miles...recommended by the dealer to prevent "cupping". These are the stock Contis A/T tires, from what I gather, rotating them doesn't "hurt", and can help, although it's not unusual to feel a little tugging or pulling if they are wearing out due to poor alignment.
