Lubricant report

It´s problarly in here allready somewhere, but.....

I recently posted about guidence in regard of changing oils and lubricants. I did some research and found a Castrol dealer nearby, I went to visit him and besides a few old British racing cars, like Lotus S7, MG´s and a Interceptor, he had a SC in the garage, so I think he knows what he is doing.

He had a Lubricant report for the TDV6, and he modified it with he´s recommendations for me.

IMPORTANT!!!!!! You have to mix the SF Antifreeze with 50% water, USE ONLY Demineralised water, the calcium in the water that comes from the tap, will f....k up your engine, especially since it´s an aluminium engine.

If sulphercontent in the used dieseloil is more than 0,7%, motoroil change must not exceed 6.000 km.

If sulphercontent in the used dieseloil is between 0.3%-0.7%, motoroil change must be halved with a

maximum of 12.000 km.

I allso bought a Brake Bleeder working with the compressor, not only is it a smart way of changing the Brake fluid, it is allso a lot better for all the brake components, to suck the fluid out, instead of squizing it out using the brakepedal...I was told... Rolling Eyes

I did see the post in regard of changing filters, which I will do to, but still, any advice/tip/trick is more then welcome..

Recommended engine oil is 5W30 and LR uses Magnatec - I would imagine that if you used 0W40 and had a claim for engine problems in the warranty period LR would throw it out because you haven't used the makers recommended lubricant 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Hate to say this, but the guy giving you guidance is a complete idiot. No way would you let your transfer case, transmission or front/rear differentials run for that long in mileage/kilometers or time - completely off base for preventative maintenance. PJPR

I am out of warranty, and have to take matter into my own hands in regard to maintaining my RRS the best way. I did a lot of checking up on 0W/40 and i did change to that. Changed Oil filter, brake fluid, Air filter aswell. and I am about to change the Fuel filter and the Coolant fluid/sensor......Cant find the best spot to emptying the coolant fluid though...any advice? Cant find the location on the "Pollen filter" either?......cant find my RRS, anyone seen a Buckinham blue RRS??

@PJPRO1: 2 companies, both located in britain, has a corebusiness based on retrieving specifications for lubricants from car manufactorers worldwide. The basic Lubricant report came from one of those companies, with a reference to Land Rover UK as the provider.......BTW, it would be a lot more constructive to pass on your knowledge on how to do things instead of just calling other people, thats trying to help out, idiots....thats a bit to easy imo Wink RRSport 2005 TDV6 2.7 HSE - Named "The Majesty" - Bought 1/7-2009.

I do believe in preventative maintenance as well...so the guidelines you have been given by this chap are far from what I would consider preventative, but are actually bordering on neglect of your vehicle.

From my own experience with the RRS, I changed the transfer case fluid at 57K miles, the front and rear diffs and transmission fluids at 70K, and I can tell you that the diffs need changing much more often than this, particularly if you are doing any sort of off roading.

The front diff fluid was black
The rear diff fluid was mocha brown, not clear
The transmission was still clear and had more life to go...

Having said that...no way I would wait 240K or approx 145K miles or 10 years to change any of these items...that's way overboard.

As far as preventative maintenance goes...this makes much more sense to do earlier...for the price of the fluids.

Good luck! PJPR

Thats cool, very constructive and very usefull info. Especially since i bought my RRS from a lady which have done a minimum to maintain it, and it has by now done 80.000 miles.....

I dont do off road yet and the car have not done any OR so far, but I do intend to, so I will follow your guidence as to what is needed and when.

"As far as preventative maintenance goes...this makes much more sense to do earlier...for the price of the fluids. ".....Wise words...
