2005 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Zambezi Silver
2005 SUPERCHARGED - SINCE BATTERY DIED- FUEL BILL HUGE! WHY?

Hi
Hope some one can help me please, i have a 2005 4.2 Supercharged RRSPORT - Been very good on fuel in the past considering a 4.2 - no change in driving styles, however since my battery died on me whilst away on holiday for a few days and managed to jump start it - the fuel consumption has been very heavy - she is also staying up in the higher revs for longer on gear changes (even when not in sport setting).

I assume that when i jump started it, i must have reset the computer and change the fuel economy settings??? Or the previous owner had the cars computer chipped, which was reset whilst jump starting.

No fuel leaks anywhere, tyre pressures are perfect - i even resort to switching off the air con to save on fuel.

I have booked it into a landrover dealer next week so they can look at it for me, but im not sure if Landrover offer a computer chipping to improve fuel economy, do they? - i would have thought it is a third party add on???

Im not sure what it could be??

Any thoughts anyone?

Thanks

The chipping thing is unlikely - as there aren't much benefits to purely remapping the SCs. The general approach there was also upgrade the pulley etc etc.... but it's not with a view to increasing economy, the average SC owner doesn't tend to worry too much about fuel costs as it goes with the territory Very Happy

The issue you report is an odd one though and not one I remember anyone else talking about. Others may have ideas though, so sit tight Thumbs Up

It's likely to be caused by a potential fault in the engine management somewhere, maybe caused by your jump start, maybe not - as its booked into the dealer this is the best place for it. Let us know what transpires.

Welcome, btw Very Happy

Do you still have Land Rover Assist cover? AS the car broke down it might be worth asking them to come out and stick their diagnostic laptop into the car's brains to download the fault codes.

You could also try phoning/emailing one of our forum sponsor,Charles Hurst Park Royal (aka CHPR) and speak to Paul Keating the service manager for some pointers. Tell him that you have come from RRSport.co.uk forums.

Just a thought, but when the dealer disconnects the battery at a service the gearbox ECU looses it's memory and you have to start retraining it to your style of driving which can take a couple of weeks for it to adapt. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
2018 Melting Silver Mini Countryman PHEV - soon to be replaced
2015MY Corris Grey SDv6 HSE Dynamic, the best car I have ever owned, totally reliable only a cou0le of rattles in 3 years, now no longer in my care
Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW

Isn't 16MPG really good for the SC? I thought it was approx 12MPG.

Might be the ECU need to refresh since the battery went off last time. This is what Land Rover told me last time...
