Ireland

In my experience over the years of doing business with various car brands & dealers, loan cars weren’t something that was offered, or that I was even aware existed.

Over the years when I had cars from dealers that were often quite a distance from my home, I’ve just taken the day off to go have the car serviced & waited around until the work was done.

The Land Rover dealer that I currently do business with, is only ten minutes in the road from home & they will always spin me home when I drop in a vehicle for service. Then in the evening they will deliver out the car to my home again. I know that they would give me a loan car if I needed one, but as we have “a few Land Rovers” here, I’m never caught for transport.

That said I'm sure that it’s not something that’s generally made available, by any garage to Joe Public getting their car serviced. It’s just that I know this particular dealer very well, so if I needed a car I’d get one.

It’s just the way it’s always been here in Ireland. At least in my experience over the years anyway.

Edited to add......

I'd say that one reason we don't get loan cars here is that there would be major insurance issues, with letting cars out to the average Joe.

2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Stornoway Grey

IIRC it is a requirement of LR in the UK that dealers have loaners available, not necessarily Land Rovers. My local dealer is also a Seat/Fiat/Mahinhdra/MG Rover-Whatevertheyarecallednow Automotive Company and Land Rover from the same site, As they are only 20 minutes drive away and have another LR to drive I used to ask for a return drive home rather than have a loaner and usually I was taken home in a FIAT Punto but when I have had a loaner it has usually been a Land Rover. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

United Kingdom 2005 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Zermatt Silver

My dealer always used to have LR vehicles as loaners notably FL2 or D3, they did have a supercharged FFRR at one stage but you had to ask months in advance for that one. With the recent downturn in sales it has apparantly become unviable for them to run a fleet of LR vehicles as loaners anymore so they have swapped to a fleet of mazda's. Can't say it really bothers me not having a vehicle of the same marque when mines in for service, guess its a sign of the times. 2005 TDV6 HSE Zermatt Silver Ebony Interior Sunroof, RSE, Side Steps

My view is that if you take your car in for a service any loan car is nice. If the car is in far a warranty job then I expect a car of very similar standard to the car the work is carried out on. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

On three separate occasions, I had to spend a day waiting, (at a dealer 2 hours drive from home) while warranty work was being carried out on an XC90, that I had the serious misfortune to own some years ago.

No offer of a loan car, or any other concession was made by the dealer.

Getting back on topic, Is it just me or do those alloys on the 1st pic look really cheap & nasty?
I love the interior of the MY10 but I am really not sure about the changes to the front grille & I don't like the new side vents. 2013 Discovery HSE Luxury - 3.0 SDV6 - Santorini Black

Australia 2008 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Stornoway Grey

I like the look of the upgraded sat nav & screen and the added controls on the steering wheel look good. Exterior wise I reckon they've cheapened it and now it looks more like a Freelander than a Range Rover. Maybe I can just ask them to upgrade my interior but keep the exterior & the TDV8 Laughing 2008 TDV8, Stornoway Grey with Alpaca premium leather, Adaptive cruise, Adaptive Bi-xenons, sunroof, Premium Nav, Premium ICE Logic 7, telephone, active locking rear diff, console coolbox, seat memory, powerfold mirrors, tow pack, window tint, dual battery, engel fridge, Goodyear Mud-Terrain tyres.

Everyone is focusing on the looks (quite rightly), however having driven the 2010my last week; in my opinion the visual changes make up less than 40% of the 2010my changes. You really need to drive one to appreciate where the development and investment has been made.
