I've more or less decided to get the car chipped up, but before lifting the bonnet, I would appreciate a word from any of you that have done it already. I won't expect any objectivity from those advertising on the site but I guess there are some of you out there who have had the operation done! RRS TDV6 (gone)

Really undecided at the moment Jay Generally, I find the performance OK (Up to about 50mph at least). I find that I drive the RRS totally differently to the BM. A lot more relaxed and laid back. Mrs S is actually OK about getting it chipped, so it's me really that's being an old woman about it. I just think that there are undoubtedly risks with having it done and that mine would be the one that goes BANG! either now, on the way across Europe, or sometime when we're in Cyprus. Also, do I need the extra performance in Cyprus? If I drove one that had been chipped......... [This reply is far too serious for me........BOOBIES....Bournville Boulevard....Wibble!... seems my question is not at all in vain. I've checked the recommended thread which eventually spiralled down into a pis***g contest between various manufacturers of chips, plug-ins and whatever. My fear is only if, as supertrotter says, it goes Bang, then what? My nearest service agent is far away and he won't be happy to help if he discovers it's a chip job RRS TDV6 (gone)

If you're at all worried, Kevin, especially being where you are, then maybe it's not the best thing to get done. All the usual players, Turbochips, JE etc will all tell you it's harmless and personally I've no doubt it is but if you can't satisfy that in your own mind then it sounds like your decision is made

They do all claim it's undetectable for chipping. Plug ins will obviously be noticable to any dealer. Don't forget that the TC and JE "chips" aren't plugins, they're software upgrades... so physically undetectable and as we've seen in countless threads here, it's arguable whether LR diagnostics can detect them either. 2009 Outstanding Contribution Award - Joint Runner Up 2009 'Tech-Head Of The Year' Award - Runner Up Like it here?
