SUSPENSION COMPRESSOR

My car has come up with a suspension fault and it is not raising, there is a noise coming from what my mate has told me is the compressor which sits under the near side rear footwell. Is this a dealer only job or can i get it replaced myself and will it need calibrating/faults erasing before it functions again ?

My car is a 2005 2.7 diesel

Thanks in advance for any help.

There are a few posts with instructions on how to change it yourself on www.disco3.co.uk - but before you buy a new compressor, make sure you need one.

Hmmm, got home tonight from driving the dirty Beemer and low and behold I had forgetten to get something. Jumped in the RRS, which is left in access mode when parked, started her up, went to raise suspension and immediately got a loud and I mean loud whirring noise which I pinpointed to the rear OS wheel area.

The car raised itself fine however the noise continued. Decided to pop it into Off Road height and the car duly raised itself as always, but the noise continued. Dropped it back to normal mode (driving) and the noise stopped, albeit briefly, I am guessing it is letting air out and then the dreaded noise restarted.

Decided to risk it anyway and drove up the track of destruction that is my driveway, got to the top and the compressor is still whirring away. Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry

Turned round , came back down and by the time I had got back to park it finally stopped. Dropped it into parked lower mode and nothing. Decided to raise the vehicle once more and the noise restarted.

Question is, never done this before, EVER and now makes a hell of a noise on every lift. Being just out of warranty, 1 month, am I looking at a horrendous bill for a new compressor ???

From memory, the P38 compressor that went on me cost about £160. Thoughts ??

Looks like it could be a call to Lancasters in the morning, the poor souls Wink L322 Big Daddy SUPERCHARGED 5.0 Autobiography - Here & Now!

I saw Misery round the back of your car, particularly in the OS wheel area, with a mischievous look on his face if that helps? Whistle

Sounds like one of the suspension air bags or air bag joins could have split?
