quick question for quick answer - wobbly steering wheel

My steering wheel now wobbles when I brake - it has been at the dealer today getting 2 new tyres and front brakes - it's done 31k miles.

have balanced them pretty perfectly and for 22" that's not easy - no wobble up to 100mph (not that I have done that Officer...) BUT - this wobbling of the steering wheel is awful.

I need something to say to the stealer tomorrow am when I call them to get it sorted - it would be good to have a definitive answer!

I know you guys can help!

Thanks

I got my wobble and other more serious stuff sorted yesterday.....

dont have 22s but 20s and recently had all 4 "professionally balance" at a local place but it made no difference.... yesterday LR balanced them using their hardware and found errors in the original balance the result is now no shimmy Thumbs Up

the lesson for me at least is have LR balance then dont trust the local tire people. Brit across the Pond Wink

Same in my case... LR re-balanced the wheels and swapped front tires, meaning sorted the steering wheel "shaking" within an hour... Thumbs Up

Just to be clear - there is none of the usual wobble when I am at a constant speed or accelerating (as I think you get when the wheel's aren't balanced properly) it's just when I decellerate.

I am not sure I was clear in my original post Jaguar XKR Convertible

Mate, the wobble I had was very inconsistent and appeared also when decellerating... I would assume that what you have is also down to balancing...
Alternative thought would be that your brakes might be worn uneven Confused

It's the brakes apparently - had new pads on on Wednesday and now disks need doing (or is it the other way round? Anyway one of them is on warranty and that's the one that needs doing - sorted! Phew. Jaguar XKR Convertible

Thumbs Up Glad that you got it sorted...

Btw, how old is your motor mate that the brakes needed doing? Or do you drive with the hand brake on? Laughing

Sounds like warped discs....they used to machine them, but now they just replace them.

Have you taken it through water when your discs were really hot? RRS TDV6 Bluetooth, VR, Roof

Thanks Lateral5 - I agree that it sounds like that - it has been raining a lot!

Anyway - all replaced under warranty and drives as smooth as ever!
