Did this really all kick off just because Martin requested a small fee for selling things

I am sure 99% of the distinguished and somewhat "newer" members would agree, this site is an invaluable resource for a whole multitude of things relating to the RRS. It is also a great place for banter and oh how we roar at the funnies

If the rules and regulations don't suit, then don't sign up, if they change and you don't like it, then leave - simple. If however you use the site for technical resource, humour or simply something to do, then a small grat from everyone will help maintain this once happy family of LR appreciaters I think Martin and the mods run a great site and I for one will miss it if it ever goes. Aside from {some} it is brimming with good sorts and should be preserved.

I don't see the fuss to be honest. A lot of forums are run for the love of it and if those owners can afford to fund them then good on them, Martin cannot and I'm not sure why he owes it to the forum community to do so anyway.

having received a few PMs of support, I notice I am still on the member's database and thought I should clarify my position with regard to this site:

I have no objection to Internet sites charging to advertise goods for sale in principle... However, I do strongly object to receiving abuse for questioning the need to make donations to a guy who is clearly trying to profit from this venture. I have no issues in making donations to worthy charities, but I do not generally make donations to ailing businesses that are clearly mismanaged or overly optimistic in their aspirations.

I KNOW from first hand experience that the site sponsors will more than cover the running costs of this site (unless the owner is being seriously ripped off by the forum host) and so your donations are going straight into the pocket of the site owner / moderators...

If you are happy with that, then fine... I am not happy with that - especially as I am in a position professionally to be of far more use to the members than any of you are ever likely to be to me.

I came on here with the intention of being helpful and to enjoy a bit of banter: I did not expect the abuse that I got right from the start and again in this thread.

Oh, and by the way, Another SW has nothing whatsoever to do with my name, but there may be one or two people who will know exactly what it stands for and how true it has turned out to be...

Fortunately I choose not to listen to people like you who think they are above everyone else, and feel it's good sport to spend their time in their "elevated" position belittling the guys "beneath" them.

I've explained why these charges have been introduce, but have you taken that on board? No. All you've done is criticise me personally, and for that reason - you're out.

For what it's worth, you don't know who I or anyone else on here is, so I don't see how you can be quite so high and mighty. The site is much better off without destructive people like you on it.
