don't worry McBunny - some people aren't obese and can actually run willingly Wink

Well the fitting put me in a pair of GT2140's which I am guessing are similar. Apparently I run too much on the instep which is why i get the splints but these are supposed to help. i have had the tell tale ache for over a week now since my last run and it still won't go! Sad

I'm too worried about running on it again until its gone Sad WINNER - 2009 Best Newcomer Award

sometimes you do need to take a long break - I sprained the base of my right foot a few years ago and had to stop running for almost 6 months before it went completely

Hope it sorts itself out for you

Thanks mate. Me too.

I stretch an awful lot before running and after a short warm up but its still not enough. I'm cursed for life with these bloody things. WINNER - 2009 Best Newcomer Award

another interesting bit of info for you is be careful on your warm up - there is a school of thought that 'over streching your muscles' before actually warming up your muscles can do more damage than good. I tend to warm up by doing 0.5k-1k jog before any running.

I'm using the Asics GT2130's as well. I also do a light stretch before and longer one after. I also stretch on non run days.

I was in major pain with shin splints ater the Berlin marathon that I did in 1987. Pre race I'd had a radioactive injection and then had a scan done to show up the hot spot on my calf to confirm diagnosis that I'd been suffering with for a while. Suspect this is now been superceded by the MRI scan. So had the surgery lined up to be done but the pain brought it forward after that race. but made it in 2hrs 45mins.
I'd had a special air splint made already for me. The op was done blind for a smaller scar about 2" long through which a Surgeon running mate cut the sheath of my calf open the entire length of the muscle to allow the muscle to expand (the pain is caused because the tightness of the muscle sheath won't allow the calf muscle to expand as it gets pumped up while you run). 24 hours post op I had the airsplint on and was back running virtually pain free apart from the wound, had to keep the muscle pumped up so that when the sheath healed it did so with scar tissue and thus made the sheath slightly bigger. Then ultrasound to break up the scar tissue to stop the calf sticking to anything else.

Probably helped that I was working in a Military Hospital at the time. It worked Thumbs Up But I don't do marathons anymore. Half marathon is a nicer distance and I may aspire to that again Bow down

PS. You could also try doing some remedial stretching on one of those Vibrating Plates at a gym. Worked for my back, hip and leg injury from last year. Really stretches out the muscles gently Idea TDV6 - gone

Any sponsors out there Question Bow down Bow down Bow down

This charity "Hearing Dogs for the Deaf"supplies highly trained dogs for deaf people so that they can be alerted to all manner of things like intruders, smoke alarms, door bells, cooker timers, alarm clocks. All the things we take for granted. They also pay all the bills for the dogs life. So it's completely free pair of ears which helps a lot of people cope with deafness and a lot more besides.

They do not get any money from the government or the lottery. It's all raised by fund raising events and sponsorship by companies.
My wife and her colleages collect used stamps which get sold for the charity.

So come on dig deep and give a little please Exclamation TDV6 - gone

Bump!!!

Surely there are more budding runners on rrsport.co.uk who fancy a run

So far its me and Josh, but a few more would be great - remember, when you enter put down 'Team rrsport.co.uk' as your team name Thumbs Up

if you can't make the run, then a little support for Josh's request would be great

Bow down Bow down Bow down

Well I made it. It was raining heavily for a fair chunk of it, but I was glad as the air was fresh and cool.

49mins give or take a few secs by my watch (still waiting for the official time). I'm happy Thumbs Up

I raised about £250 for my charity. TDV6 - gone

Sorry to hear that Kaine. I did keep my eye out for you.

I've had a few muscle problems in training carrying on from last years injury and had to back off the training regime. Pb in training before the problems started to flare again was 47 mins. So to end up at 49m is a reasonable compromise. I was hoping for 45m.......maybe next time Bow down

I started with a couple of colleagues who are 20 years younger than me. One came in at 45m and the other at 52m.

Have you entered anymore Question TDV6 - gone
