Seems various dealers have agreed to replace the ball joints under warranty and I suppose if one can get LR to approve a warranty repair then so should all dealers. James at CHPR did mention recently that Paul their service manager had overlooked some other emails too - maybe worth just ringing in that case?

I am having the same debate at the moment, i bought a second hand RRS for my wife to accompany mine it went in for a service yesterday and they say the ball joints are worn and need replacing... My response to them was well I only bought it second hand from you 4 months ago and you didnt mention that the ball joints were wearing in the "fully comprehensive pre delivery service" you did. I am supposed to have 12 mnths extended warranty.

I don't know for sure, but you may find they're not covered under the extended warranty. The extended warranty is less than simply an extension of the factory warranty in that respect.

LRCS said its not covered... called the dealer... played the line that obviously their sales staff lied when they sold the car and demanded all paperwork pertaining to the PDC and the pre-deliver MOT on the car..... 5 minutes later the service desk calls and they will now cover on warranty... which is great put what else is on that PDC and MOT !!!!! |

Thanks for the replies , it still leaves this debate wide open i cant see how one Dealer can claim ball joint replacement as a warranty item and others do not. I still dont believe that the ball joints on RR Sports are only supposed to last 3 years and then need changing as a matter of wear and tear !

Agreed. I wonder if this shows that the LR warranty doesn't have a specific set of parts attached to it and rather each claim is reviewed on its own merits - can't imagine that's a very efficient way to run things.

Monkey - I believe LR have redesigned the ball joints for the RRS precisely because the original fitting was wearing out too quickly and potentially contributing to the infamous knocking on the front end. That strikes me as a fair case for saying that the original part was defective and replacements should be fitted FOC at LR expense. Worth a try anyway .... RRS TDv8 HSE Rimini

When were the new design ball joints put into production vehicles? Mine is a March/April 2008 build (I think) so would mine have the old or new design?

Given the date on that TSB is Oct 08, I'd suggest yours would not have them.
